Ordet (1955)

There are few movies that really had an impact on me, that really held an important place in my heart and changed the way I perceived life. "Ordet" (The word) directed by the famous Danish director Carl Dryer is surely one of them.

Based on on a play by Kaj Munk, a Danish Lutheran priest, the story presents the life of two families with different world views, different Christian views and some of them even struggling with unbelief. The conflict between these two families starts to grow when Anders which is part of the Borgen family fells in love with Anne Petersen, the daughter of Peter the Tailor.

The movie, presents the difficulty of understanding and accepting each other's family faith and beliefs, leading to hate, broken relationships and bitterness. The one person that starts to open the eyes of everyone is ironically the one with mental problems, Johannes. Despite being insane, Johannes proves his faith among the two families, which eventually will bring them more closer and will lead to solving all the conflicts.

What's really inspiring about this movie is faith and love which ultimately connect peoples despite of their differences. The power of faith can be found unexpectedly, in a person who is not consider to be rational.

There's a quote from the Apostle Paul, which sums up pretty much the core idea of this wonderful movie:

"But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong." 1 Corinthians 1:27

I just hope that this movie will inspire you, as much as it inspired me.
