I think the biggest abuse is voting for your own comment ... "As tempting as it is" (?), I prefer to spread the upvotes to other people. I also invested here in SPORTS. I plan to stay in this amazing community because sport is my area. I am a Physical Education teacher and I feel very comfortable here. Now, in order for Sportstalk to grow strong, we really must unite so that abuse cannot go unpunished. Other tribes I've witnessed that they actually play the role of curator and also watch out for abusers. Here we have everything to be one of the best communities. It just depends on ourselves.
I did 1,5 % in last 14 days, which is OK I guess - and its for 2 reasons, I upvote my charity posts and sportstalk posts also, because I have some SPORTS staked. But 1/4 of self votes sounds sick, that is right.
That's right, they don't take care of the ecosystem and the effects will be noticeable in the medium term, when the rewards fall, the frustration will be great for newcomers. Then come the consequences.
I think, it's okay to self vote now and then on one's good and under-appreciated posts, but not all the time, let someone else to decide the worth of the post/s, and there are still many steemians who do support good contents.
