Steemit #openmic Week 68 - Furry Lewis Blues - Cover. Slide Guitar

in #openmic7 years ago (edited)

This is my entry into week 68 @openmic. This is a cover consisting of a blend of two Furry Lewis songs, Furry's Blues and Take Me Mama, laid out to my own musical arrangement.

I'm playing slide guitar here on my vintage Gibson, in the open G tuning.

I hope you ll enjoy this offering, feedback is always much appreciated, so please let me know your thoughts.

I've had an extremely busy week, and for a while I wondered if I'd be able to get this one in, in time for week 68. I also had some technical difficulties making this video , and even after overcoming them, still managed to cut myself off mid way through my parting sentence. Ah well, so overall, I'm very happy to be hitting the 'post' button right now!

I'd like to say aa huge thanks to @luzcypher and his amazing team of helpers, judges and very generous supporters, and everyone who left a positive mark on my first ever entry here, last week. I was so touched by the love shown, and by the general buzz and respectful atmosphere you guys have built up here. Big up to all involved!! (tips hat)

Thanks @soundlegion , So pleased you loved the "fuck out of it! That's one of the coolest things I've heard in a long time.

I'll be back without a doubt, though unfortunately I'll have to miss this week as I'm floored and in bed with some horrible nonovirus. "Got me them norovirus blues, from my head down to my shoes". It's the first time I've managed to look at the screen without it making me feel like throwing up, for the past 2 or 3 days.
I'm sure I'll be here and back to form next week though. :)

Very nice, you have a great feeling.

Thanks man. I appreciate you dropping in.

beautiful, really soulful and controlled playing on the slide. Loved it. You put your heart into it :)

Much love - Carl

Aww thanks bro, and thanks for dropping in, I'm really pleased you enjoyed it.

Blues with no heart, wouldn't be art. ;)

Nice.. I love your vibe and that is a beautiful guitar! Good luck on Steemit! I hope to see more of your videos :)

Thanks @matisotoaguilar, much appreciated, and wow, I just heard your own sweet sounds going down in @mogatiexperiment, really cool, heartfelt vocals there, and wow that percussion too!

Thanks @luzcypher, yeah, same here, very glad. I'm pleased you've enjoyed my music here again.

Nice representation of blues past, man! ... those old blues tunes are some of the very first origins of Rock & Roll, and it's so cool that you're able to translate them so well!

Thanks bro, I agree, it's the roots of most popular genres today in one way or another, and a definite precursor for both Jazz and Rock and Roll, Rock etc.

I love the blues so much because of it's honesty. "The blues is the truth", and that's really what I hope comes across in my playing. The blues is one thing we all resonate with, if we're to be in touch with ourselves and those around us.

I've never thought of it being the type of music that can be learnt note for note, or from tablature, maybe the reason being, that I can't learn that way myself. The only thing I'd find more confusing than reading tablature would be writing my own stuff down in tablature, lol, but to get down the subtleties and nuances, they just have to be felt I think. Hence you rarely hear much of what I play, resemble much of the originals I cover, but hopefully resembles the feel of those early blues styles.

Glad you enjoyed it.

I feel you, brother... and I feel exactly what you're saying - it's the truth, man... And there is nothing quite so illuminating or profound - as the truth! It's a beautiful thing...

Thanks for this informative post.
