RE: Steemit OpenMic week 106 "It's Only Rock and Roll (But I Like It)" Rolling Stones cover by @gibber

Hehe I like watching your performance @gibber, you are having so much fun there! Yee-hah! Love that you play a 12-string guitar and that you have an egg shaker. That is soo cool! Is it hard to play a 12-string guitar compared to a 6-string?

Yes I'm having a great time playing in this contest it really is so much fun for me... 12 string guitars are not really too hard to play although the left hand has to work a little harder and some chords are almost impossible to get to sound good. Usually open chords sound the best on a 12 string and because of all the double tones and octaves some songs sound better than others. Thank you for listening to my version of this great song and have a great week ;9)

Cool! Really awesome. It is so important to have fun while doing something you like, even for a contest and contest is besides the point, isn't it? :)
Ah.. the neck is slightly wider right, for a 12-string? For the chords, do we have to press double strings?
Thank you! Have a great week too @gibber! :)

Yes the neck is little larger and you have to hold down double strings. It has a regular set and an additional "light" set of strings. the lighter set of strings has pitch an octave higher for 4 of the bass side strings and doubles the other 2, I hope that makes sense to you. So the coolness of the 12 string sound comes from additional octaves and overtones generated... Usually songs with big open chords sound great while other songs may or may not sound good on a twelve string, you just have to play with it and see if it fits the song... It takes a little getting used to when chording because of the additional strings, but with a little practice most people adapt pretty quickly... I hope that answers your question... if you play guitar you should try a twelve string out for fun... if you don't play you might have an interest in starting to learn, there are a lot of free resources on the internet and it's really hours of fun ;9)

Awesome! I play the normal 6 string guitar and I first saw the 12 string guitar played when I watched the music video for Hotel California by the Eagles. Always wondered about it. Thanks @gibber! Will check out tutorials online :) Happy Sunday to you!
