Open Mic Week 41: The best week yet!
Whoaaaa to Week 41! I just did a quick few listens to some of the entries this week (I wasn't able to earlier because I didn't have wifi yet at my new place) and I am SO impressed. Go here if you want to take a look. It's really worth it.

Earlier on, I have to say that I was a little 'meh' about a lot of the entries. But I can definitely see now that Steemit is drawing REALLY talented people who are really focused on their craft, and am just feeling honoured to be counted among their ranks! I'm going to have to step up my game a little if I want to do well. The weekly contest is also growing every single week.
That's what I love about Steemit more than anything: it seems to attract such high-quality people who really desire to produce great work. The quality is often heading toward professional, if not already there. Just wanting to celebrate that!
Here is my official entry from this week in case you missed it: https://steemit.com/openmic/@kayclarity/open-mic-week-41-home-by-gabrielle-alpin-cover-by-kay-clarity

Great post Kay, you're so right... As for me @brimax it's all about listening to and encouraging all participants that we truly like. I can't help but to listen to each and every entry (perhaps not each in their entirety) but those that strike me, I will listen through, up-vote, and often comment + follow. And @brimax , you are one of my favorites... I'm a fan! :) Thanks again for the great post @kayclarity ... :)
I have been feeling the opposite way about openmic. It seems that there are more and more entries but fewer and fewer people are taking the time to do what you are doing....listening to other posts and voting.
It's rather discouraging......and I haven't ruled out that I just suck ( which might explain a lot)
Hmm. I wonder if that's true--I hadn't noticed that yet as a trend, but I had noticed my entries weren't doing as well. I guess what I was primarily excited about was the quality of the entries, but you may very well be correct about the lack of interaction!
That's a general problem here on Steemit: very few taking time to curate content. I admit it's a bit of a struggle for me as well. Any ideas on how we can change that?
It's hard when there's so many entries to give them all the time they deserve. I've made a web page which helps a bit.
You can see the most recent entries at the top here:
http://www.steemreports.com/steemit-chart/openmic-new/
You can play though the video by clicking on them, and I'll update it every Monday for the new competition. The only thing is you can't yet vote/comment from there, which I hope to change soon if possible.
There's also a chart here, it's auto-calculated, and I'm not that impressed with the current formula, especially since I'm near to the bottom too @brimax ;)

As you say, curation is a problem though, I wonder if the rewards proportion for curators needs to be raised from 25%. I also think trails like Curie favour reps below 53, though not sure why.
Hey @andybets ... just curious... do your recent entries update in realtime as new entries are posted, or is it just a live capture of what you captured on any given Monday?
It should update live each time the page is reloaded. If there's anything that doesn't seem to be working properly about it, please let me know, as I'm planning to improve it as time allows.
Thanks Andy!
It might take some kind of official enforcement about how it works: like you have to curate content before you can post or something?
I'm not sure about enforcement, but I agree that people just aren't taking the time to support the same people they want to support them. It's almost like they post and wait but don't curate.
I'm not sure what the answer is but like I said I have been feeling discouraged.
I do agree about quality, there have been some unbelievable submissions lately.
I also think it will continue to get better (talent wise), but com'n guys and gals support your supporters.
Ok, I think I have vented enough.😡
