El cantante y bajista de la banda creó esta canción en pocos minutos y narra la difícil situación sentimental que estaba vivienda. La historia cuenta que esta pieza musical fue escrita durante el termino del matrimonio de Sting con Frances Tomelty. En la amargura de ese suceso, Sting se refirió en una entrevista diciendo: "Me desperté en medio de la noche, con estas palabras en mi cabeza, asi que me senté al piano y la escribí en media hora. La música en sí es genérica, un conjunto de ritmos, pero las palabras son muy interesantes. Suena como una canción de amor reconfortante". Esta melodia ha sido interpretada por diversos artistas. Entre los principales artistas que han versionado esta mítica canción, destacan UB40 (para la banda sonora de 50 primeras citas), Julianna Hatfield, Millencolin, o el baterista de la banda Steve Copeland de manera solitaria. La cantante mexicana Yuridia hizo una versión en español titulada Siempre te amaré, dentro de su álbum Habla el corazón. Destaca de manera especial la adaptación de Puff Daddy, I'll Be Missing You, que cantó con Faith Evans y 112 para el tributo por el asesinato del rapero The Notorious B.I.G. Varias personas la usan para musicalizar sus casamientos pero en realidad es una canción muy poco optimista.
