Open Mic Week 20 - Original song title "California" - Jaybird

in #openmic8 years ago

Hey Guys and Gals,

Here's my Week 20 Original Song Submission titled "California."

I'm still on that Indie Folk writing train so this tune is very similar to my last one. I was joking around with some buds about how easy it is to write a "west coast" pop song and pretty much said "all you got to do is put the word California in there somewhere and you got one.."

And then... I literally blurted out "California you're so good to me, California you make it so hard to leave."

I pretty much wrote this one in an hour lol. So it's kind of a funny to me. Also I should preface that the bridge is the exact same bridge from my last submission sooooo lame i know :(

Enjoy

So true! I have a whole playlist with songs that have the word "California" in them. They always put me in a good mood, especially during Toronto winters!

Pretty good for a one hour song session. It has a reminiscent and feel good vibe to it but I can tell the song doesn't really resonate true to you like it's a meaningful song, because in past performances you really sang with passion and conviction and it even showed in your body language, but here it was a bit lacking in emotion and soul to drive the feeling home. I enjoyed it still and it definitely is pretty easy to write a song when you are a seasoned music writer such as yourself. You write a lot of originals so it becomes second nature, but for the average beginner, to create a song out of thin air seems impossible at times. I've had moments where a song idea is laid out quickly when I'm inspired or I'm motivated and focused. It's amazing how swiftly I can complete the structuring some days, and other days a song takes months! It always varies. Nice entry, I will listen to your last entry so I can compare it and hear the bridge now that you mentioned it. Best of luck bro Upvoted.

Ya totally. I'm usually working on 3-5 tunes at the same time. Some of them are ideas that don't take shape or find great direction for several months. However, if you keep jamming those things out, spontaneously, sometimes you get lucky and catch a good idea that helps you finish the tune. Also some ideas you complete but they aren't that great etc. You've got a pretty good handle on songwriting i'd say!

I am the exact same way bro. Not everything can be a hit but we have a general idea of what will tie well together. I appreciate your compliment, we improve our handle with practicing every week. You are also very solid in songwriting as well.
