Open Mic week 86: Menuet (from JS Bach’s notebook for Anna Magdalena)
Good morning! 🎶 Today I wanted to share a fun Bach menuet that is from the special notebook of music he composed for his second wife, Anna Magdalena. It was originally written for clavichord or keyboard, but I have taken the treble melody line and am playing it on the mandolin.
A minuet is a French social dance for two, and there is speculation that the name references the tiny steps the dancers would take (French “menu” means “small”).
