Steemit Open Mic Week # 54 - I Dreamed a Dream by Les Miserables (Cover) + My Les Mis Theatre Photos
I was a theater kid in high school and Les Miserables has always been one of my favorite musicals. You guys get to hear my " choir voice" today as this song demands a lot of vibrato!
My senior year, we all were holding our breath to see what our final number would be... what we would spend the next 4 months of our lives rehearsing. When it came out that we were doing Meet me in St. Louis, I guess you could say I was less than inspired. I love to sing, dance and perform though - so I was obviously still going to audition.
Post auditions... they did something a little crazy. They had seen SO much talent for both men and woman in the auditions that they decided to switch the musical to Les Miserables. For those unfamiliar with the musical, it requires a large cast of main characters, all of whom need to be able to perform challenging vocal pieces.
Now before you think i'm bragging here... I was not considered part of this big talent pool. I went to a private high school with a top notch arts program. Many of my fellow students have now gone on to be professional singers and actors. When the results came out... I was pretty thrilled to see that I was in "high chorus" which meant that I would get a lot of stage time and some small solos.
Today, I dug through a bunch of old photos to find some shots from the production to share with you! Probably one of my funniest moments from the show is that I played a nun in one scene and a prostitute in the next one. This meant that I had to wear my prostitute costume under my habit and then run back stage, rip it off and run back on stage. Most of the crew got a good laugh about that one!
Now you might be thinking... that looks more like a brightly colored patch of rags with a feather boa then a prositute costume. Remember when I said I went to a private school? It was a super religious private school that barely even allowed us to do Les Miserables because they thought it promoted prostitution... go figure.
Here are a couple other shots form various scenes.
I hope you enjoyed my rendition of I Dreamed a Dream. It was certainly fun for me to go down memory lane and share a piece of my favorite musical with you. <3
I predict one day you're going to be famous, two totally different music pieces and you nailed it, your voice is great. and with you having experience on stage just adds to your talent. still following you as me and my wife would like to hear more :)
Thanks so much for all of your support!! It really means so much to me. ❤️
I would have loved to see that play. How fun.
Thanks! Being part of a stage production is definitely a cool experience. 😊
The theater community is growing fast where I live. Lots of the kids at my music school are involved in theater. I have mostly been involved with bands, not musical theater until recently. How timely I should come across this ...awesome 😊 Much success to you! ✌🏾
So cool that you are getting involved in musical theatre! It’s pretty amazing the bonds you can build with people by having months of rehearsals together.
Just beautiful. Such wonderful vibrato. Followed :)
Thank you so much! ❤️
