Open Mic Week 41 - "Off to Sea Once More" performed at sea by Andy Loughney
Ahoy mateys!
I recently traveled via ferry on a return from a vacation to Nova Scotia, Canada. I took the opportunity to record a submission for Open Mic Week 41, though I say Week 42 in the video because I didn't have internet access and I thought it was 42. But, it appears I was wrong.
The version of this song that I am familiar with is one by Jerry Garcia and David Grisman, off of the Shady Grove album. It was one of the first songs that I learned on the guitar.
Nova Scotia is beautiful and I recommend visiting if you have a chance. The Bay of Fundy has the largest tidal changes in the world, around 50 feet, which makes for some sensational effects on the landscape.
Enjoy!
How cool to be playing that song where you are at the moment.
for sure...can't even imagine what the open seas were like on a big old wooden ship back in the day...whoa.... I barfed on the way to Canada, but was much better to play this song on the return trip!
I loved it. It sounds amazing!!! I also do covers, play violin and do videos on youtube as well. We have to support the music industry on steemit, that's why I upvoted you :D
great, thanks a lot! i'll check out some of your stuff
That means a lot to me!!!!
That looks like fun! Great guitar skill. I like your little drawing too. Have a great day.
aye aye captain!
Now that really took me back to my traditional folk days and that's quite a long way (50yrs). I must confess, I found myself watching the sea through the window there while listening to your singing! Nice one and the ambience is first class too! 👍
that's very nice to hear, thank you! and i can't blame you for watching the sea instead of my face!
Very relaxing tune :) I'm from Nova Scotia and I'm going for a visit in two weeks, I can't wait to smell the salty air!
Glad you liked it and I hope you have an awesome trip back home. I absolutely loved it
Thanks I can't wait! My body has been deprived of the ocean for too long :)
Cool seaman, check out my cover of City Of Stars pls
Terrific song, Nova Scotia is a beautiful place to visit, we've lived here for 3 years now! What part of the Bay did you take that photo? We've been to Blomindon quite a few times, never have I seen this particular formation before, we have to go there!
it was in Medford, on the way back from Blomidon. You can see the formations from Blomidon and then we headed there to see it. We found a little path down to the beach, but then it looked like maybe there were some stairs at the far end. Spectacular!
Ooh my goodness, okay, I think I know EXACTLY what that is now!!!!!!! We have never gone down to it, thank you so much we will go over that way next time we're out! Here's a pic I took a couple years ago, is this the place?
that's it! Very cool to see your pic. Checked out your page and following you now!
That's very kind of you, it's really great to meet someone who appreciates both music and the Earth's beauty. <3 <3 <3
we had such a good time we started looking at this and thinking about putting a time share together with some folks!

Wow, that church turned cabin is Beautiful! And what a price too! All the real estate in NS is very inexpensive, the economy here has never boomed but it's never busted. Looks like a nice area too!
I know, the price seems so reasonable and actually, the church and cabin are separate buildings! We'll see....got plenty on my plate right now so probably won't pursue but who knows...
Yaharrr!
