Open Letter
Hi,
I know I haven't posted in awhile, so I thought I would post something I was working on in school. It is a multi step project, and its called our advocacy project. The first project is the open letter, and here is mine. Please up vote and re-steem this post.
Dear Canadian:
Democracy is based upon the conviction that there are extraordinary possibilities in ordinary people. Yet this summer thousands of students will not be receiving funding for their summer work. Why? Because the government has said they will not fund anybody who is prolife. This change is in direct violation of section two of the Canadian charter which states, everyone has the Freedom of Thought, Belief, Opinion, and Expression, including Freedom of the Press and Other Media of Communication.
The new changes to the summer student funding program are in direct violation of our freedom of opinion. According to recent poles in Canada 4 in 10 Canadians are prolife. Because the government is not prolife they are discriminating against anyone who disagrees. It’s called reverse discrimination, where the once majority becomes the victimized minority.
I urge you to stop this from happening!
By letting the government to pass this law we are allowing thousands of youth to lose funding, but also allowing the government to be like a dictatorship. One of the most important things that all of us Canadians share and enjoy are our freedoms, that’s why people immigrate here.
Edmund Burke once said the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. And that is happening right now, there has not been a huge uprising, and nothing has changed. As Canadians we need to be louder and more outspoken in our government.
It’s everybody’s government, shouldn’t it represent everybody?
All Canadians deserve to be protected and respected by the Canadian government; that is why you need to write letters, sign petitions, and if possible protest the new government legislation because as Harry Emerson Fosdick once said, Democracy is based upon the conviction that there are extraordinary possibilities in ordinary people.
Sincerely,
Colton Noel
