RAPE,A MAJOR ISSUE IN OUR SOCIETY

Rape is any form of sexual intercourse or sexual penetration carried out by an individual against a victim without their consent. Rape is one of the greatest problems in the society that affects females majorly. It is one of the leading causes of psychological trauma in our society. Many rape victims have suffered stigmatisation, depression, sexually transmitted diseases and some of them even commit suicide.
Rape is associated with emotional, physical,sexual,medical and psychological problems. Most rape victims develop sexual dysfunction, infections, pelvic inflammatory diseases and others. The act of rape is devilish and it subjects the victims to life condemnation, low self esteem and social withdrawal.
The victims of rape should not be blamed or stigmatised because they can develop psychiatric problems as a result of the emotional stress. Also, stigmatising rape victims will prevent other people who have been raped from opening up and reporting to appropriate authority because they will be blamed thus, allowing the rapists to go free and raping other people.
Rape can be prevented by the following ways:
1 People who are caught in the act should be punished severely by either life imprisonment or death sentence so that others who have the intention of rape would be scared of carrying it out.
2 Females should be educated on mode of dressing and should be taught self defence so as to protect themselves if they find their selves in such position.
In conclusion, rape is a very serious offense and any person caught in the act should be punished severely.
