Dear Steemians,

Today, one of India's greatest freedom fighter and patriot, Subhas Chandra Bose's 121st Birthday. This article is a small tribute on Subhas Chandra Bose.

He was considered as hero in India because of his extremist attempts to make India independent from British rule by asking the help of Nazi Germany and imperial Japan and formed Indian National Army with an aim of fighting British with the help of Germany, Japan and later with the help of Soviet.

He was born in a Bengali Kayastha family in Cuttack, Orissa division of the then Bengali province. He was a brilliant student and completed his schooling in Cuttack and joined Presidency College Culcutta and later University of Culcutta to complete his graduation in B.A.

He told his father that he will study for Indian Civil Service(ICS) from England and left to England in 1919 and completed ICS with fourth rank. He was not interested to work under British because of the humiliations they use to do to Indians and resigned from Indian Civil Services and returned to India in 1921.

He started thinking about freeing India from British and started news paper Swaraj and started following Chittaranjan Das, another patriot and was working as spokesman for aggressive nationalism in Bengal.

Bose thought of seeking help from other countries and started his visit o Europe in 1930's. He visited Indian students and political leaders such as Benito Mussolini. This made him as a national leader and Bose became President of Indian National Congress in 1938. Bose, though became President of Indian National Congress, he has to lose that because of his differences with Mahatma Gandhi, as Gandhi was for non violence and Bose wanted to achieve freedom thru war with British.

So, he flew to England and consulted the English political leaders from Labour Party such as Clement Attlee, Harold Laski, Gilbert Murray. With that, he planned for massive protests from Culcutta when he came back to India and was sent to jail by British but released him after 7 days hunger strike, but kept under surveillance from British.

As there was no support from Indian Congress, Bose escaped to Germany to only know that German leader Hitler is not in mood to help India through military invasion. This made him to move to Japan in 1943 and he met Japanese major Iwaichi Fujiwara and led to formation of Indian National Army with an aim to fight British with that army along with the help of Japanese force.

Though INA and Japanese troops were able to capture Manipur and Andaman and Nicobar Island regions, these were re-captured by vast British Army leaving INA in jeopardy.

By 1944, Bose was left with only few INA members and was in Singapore from where he addressed Mahatma Gandhi as "Father of Nation" and asked his support in his fight for Independence India.

On 18th August 1945, after meeting Vice Chief of Staff of the Japanese Kwantung Army who made negotiations with Soviet Army for helping Bose and INA, Bose along with few others while fleeing to Japan from Taiwan, the plane carrying Bose and other crashed and severely burned Bose died around 10 PM died because of wounds due to burn.

Bose is said to have pronounced the slogans Swaraj, Jai Hind for the first time and Jai Hind remains ever popular.

There were many popular films after India's Independence about Subhas Chandra Bose and he still remains as a National Hero for Indians because of his act to bring Independence India.

His popular slogan "Give me blood, I shall give you freedom" encouraged young Indians to be part of INA and fight against British rule.

As the Indians celebrate the Birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, this is a small act of remembering and saluting him.
