#onthisday Nobel Prize winning chemist Dororthy Hodgkin was born in 1910. ⠀⠀

Hodgkin read chemistry at Oxford, receiving a first in 1932. After completing her PHD at Cambridge she returned to Oxford to take up a fellowship. She was the first scientist to make an X-ray diffraction photography of protein, a technique that she subsequently used to define the structure of penicillin (1942-49), vitamin B12 (1964) and insulin (1969). ⠀⠀
