ONO: EOS RADIO / Ke Xu and Stellabelle Interview Transcription

in #ono6 years ago (edited)

I have caught the ONO bug after @stellabelle wrote this article on hackernoon where she interviewed Ke Xu the CEO of a new social network named ONO that will eventually reside on the EOS blockchain.

(from Ke Xu)

Actually, it doesn’t mean anything in Chinese. The full-length name of ONO is ‘Oh Nome’. Our company name is Nome Tech. The word, nome, basically means a province where people live and it originated in ancient Egypt. There were 42 nomes in ancient Egypt with each nome being led by a nomarch.

It also can be defined as a combination of the social concepts inherent in the words, name and home, both of which carry a deep significance for the social nature of human beings. Humans are fundamentally driven by social impulses, so the words, name and home embody these social foundations on which our lives are based.

There is yet another meaning of nome, when it is split into two words: ‘no’ and ‘me’ which means ‘know yourself,’ as originated by Socrates. Knowing yourself remains to be one of the things we can aspire towards in a new social network.

ONO the place between name and home. The space where you get to know yourself.

Here is an edited transcription of EOStalk Radio's interview of Ke Xu and @stelleabelle.

I have done some minor editing for clarity.

EOS Radio: So lets learn a little more about the ONO social network. People started to hear the rumblings thanks to @stellabelle's interview. Go ahead and tell us a little about you and about ONO.

Xu: It's my pleasure to talk about ONO. ONO is a free decentralized democracy. It's a social network. We just lauched it yesterday and after 12 hours we reached over 30 thousand users. We have over 1 million supporters on WeChat and the Chinese version of Twitter called Weibo. People are looking forward to more invitation codes, which are selling on the black market for 200 dollars.

EOS Radio: That's why Katie in our chat was asking "Can we get a code?"

(laughs)

If you are a writer or amazing artist we will invite you.

Katie is definitely an amazing writer. When it comes to stick figures, I can do pretty well. And finger paintings.

Can you describe the vision for ONO?

I want to describe [ONO] more, because our Korean volunteer said people were curious about the difference between ONO and Steemit. Actually, we have two differences. We want to solve the problem that Steemit may have. The first one is the token system. People may be confused about what they have in their hand. They don't know what to trade or what to keep. We have a single token system. It is very easy.

The second is our strategy and values are different from Steemit, because we have to protect the ecosystem builders and the content producers and their profits. That is why we don't sell any tokens before we have 3 million users.

People are curious about our team. I'm going to introduce our team. I am the CEO and founder of ONO. I graduated in 2014 when I was only 19 years old. I started up a company named ERA. At that time, ERA reached 1 million users in 12 days. We don't think reach reaching lots of people is very difficult. It is easy to reach lots of people. We think it is better for our ecosystem we have to make more supporters and people who really trust our values. ERA now has over 10 million users in China.

In 2017, we did a project in China named (Cryptodogs)[http://www.acdog.hk], which is famous in China too. Cryptocurrency users are super attracted to this project. At that time, we thought Cryptodogs was a game and could not develop long term. We decided to give the project to the people. We wanted to build a better project for all the people in the world. That is why we built ONO.

I want to introduce our Technology Vice President. His name is Xu Yuming.

Nice to meet you.

He cannot speak English well, but I will try to translate it for you. Because he will mention lots of technology details about ONO and how we do the EOS BP and so on.

Are you going to be offering multi-language support on ONO?

Yeah we will. We will launch our international version in May.

Xu graduated from a top 5 university in China. He worked in China for 10 years for companies similar to NASDAQ. He is a developer and has very good skills.

Welcome to the EOS community. We are glad to have you as part of the EOS community.

We have lots of team members that come from all over the world. Torres is our ecosystem designer and he can speak English.

Great to meet you.

He is a genius because he jumped a grade. He graduated when he was 20. Post-graduate.

Stellabelle: PhD right?

Torres: No. Just a masters.

He graduated when he was 20? I think i was just getting started.

(laughs)

That's impressive.

We have lots of geniuses... well known people in China and they come to ONO to build our social network.

Thanks for bringing those great people in, Ke. (pronounced like "key")

Thank you. Thank you for calling me "Ke".

(laughs)

Actually, I'm going to introduce how ONO (grew) so fast. Because we have 1 million supporters.

Can we also pause for a bit and introduce how @stellabelle is going to fit into this?

Ke Xu: Fit into what?

Stellabelle: He is asking what is my role. What role do I have in ONO.

Stella is our international partner. That is why I mentioned how we got so many supporters in two weeks. We have a policy for super partners, community partners, and community volunteers. And Stella can explain the super partners more. Stella, tell us about the partners in ONO.

Stellabelle: One of the biggest things that is unique to ONO is the super partner role. The super partner role is a compassionate leader within the ONO network. That role is holding the ONO values very close. And leading and guiding others.

Because social networks are extremely vulnerable at the very beginning. It is important and critical that the leaders have this element of compassion so they can solve the interpersonal problems as a functioning adults.

They can create an atmosphere that is engaging, helpful, and they can guide people to solutions. This is a very important part of what is needed in the world. We are opening the doors to people that have a different vision of what the world could be leading with compassion.

This is the reason I got attracted to this project. It really hit.. it was a spark in my mind. It is possible to build a different world. It is very organic. I don't want to talk too much, but compassionate leadership is a big part of why I got involved.

Xu: That is pretty much the soul and the value of ONO... (too much background noise in my recording)

Ke, what is the word ONO mean?

Xu: Our company is named Nome Technologies. What does nome mean? It is a variation of the meaning for first community for humans in this world. And also can be similar to name and home. It is very much a philosophy for human society.

N-O-M-E also means know me. Like know yourself. It is the reason why we should socialize.

This is great. I'm having a great time right now. It's fun seeing everyone work hard. You guys are taking this very seriously and I think that is great. You started off in China and you're expanding internationally in May. When it comes to EOS itself are you building on top of EOS and running for block producer? Can you tell me a little more about that?

Xu: Here is our strand for the EOS BP. We have a strength... we have a large amount of users. We all believe is now the best solution in the world. We have more trust in EOS because our career is built on this. In order to start a project you need long term confidence and long term trust to avoid lots of chaos. We believe that we have confidence and trust (in EOS). When EOS has a problem we won't betray it or we won't do something bad. We won't do evil. We have similar values and philosophy that are aligned with EOS.

When we become the BP we will help the Dapp ecosystem for EOS. We are developers and we know how to help. Developers don't only need money. They need other support like users, supporters, and solutions.

When do you plan to launch ONO?

Xu: We are going to launch version 2, the international version, in May and update it every 2 weeks. We won't reward too many ONOTs in the first version.

How can you launch if the EOS main net is not out until June?

Xu: We are now using the EOS testnet. When EOS is ready we will bring our data there. It is a big time for us.

And the users will own the tokens and govern the platform, right? It is very democratic and open right?

Xu: They can earn tokens by writing good articles and building the ecosystem.

Where can folks keep up with ONO? If they are looking to learn more or if they want to get invited when you release in May.

Stellabelle: Let me just interject. It is Onosocial on Twitter, Steemit, Medium, and Reddit.

Congrats, Stellabelle, on passing the 500 question test.

(laughs)

Stellabelle: I haven't passed it yet. I did help with the whitepaper.

Thank you for introducing the world [to ONO].

It is great to meet you Ke and Stellabelle.

Stellabelle: It is nice to see you in person.
