Open letter to all Steemians: ONO is not a threat!
"ONO can be defined as a combination of the social concepts inherent in the words, name and home, both of which carry a deep significance for the social nature of human beings".
-Ke Xu, Founder and CEO of ONO.
Lately, I've seen certain conflicts around the ONO project, its scope, and its particularities. Especially, I've seen in a couple Discord chats and random comments that people are questioning the reason for this initiative and if it really is a total contrast to the work that @ned and his team have done on Steemit.
I have to start by saying that personally, I don't see any problem in that Ke Xu has found a "different" way to Steemit so that content creators have a voice in a world crammed with deceptive advertising and anonymous creators. People who don't receive the real value for expressing their whole and their humanity to the world. Steemit was avant-garde in that because it gave the stranger the opportunity so that he could make a profit through his work and good intentions, but Steemit couldn't cover everything.
The fear of new things |

If something is already customary with everything related to blockchain technology, it is that every day new forms and ways are generated to face with growing the ravages of technological evolution. On that same plane, we find ONO.
The first Social Network Based on Blockchain Technology (we must say it in capital letters) doesn't boast of wanting to destroy the competition or to attract a more extensive client portfolio, on the contrary, its value lies in the principle that is erected on its spine: the user is always a priority.
On Steemit, many communities have managed to consolidate in an attractive, strong and very lucrative way. I understand that losing that comfort can generate fears, but ONO doesn't intend to fight against what is freely established, it is simply projected as a decentralized option in this world crammed with powerful centralisms.
From @angiechin28, a great collaborator of the ONO Builders team, I once read that we can make a perfect analogy by saying that Steemit would be like Blogger and ONO like Facebook. Of course, I don't speak here of perfect similarities, or interface technicalities, it's simply a way to bring the most serious thoughts and scares to earth.
Then, why so much conflict? |
---|
There are those who accuse sabotage, perhaps only a little jealousy, but I believe that it is simply fear of experiencing new things. If we continue with the analogy of @angiechin28, could you imagine (and be honest) a Facebook that pays you to offer the platform quality content? Have you ever received a penny from Facebook without being a sponsor? Just acting like a normal user? Yes, the new thing that seems to touch the fantasy is scary, but we should not run away from it.
Changing the world is a decision, and the ONO team is willing to include everyone who wants to be part of this decision. We are the first generation of ONOrary members, and as pragmatic co-founders of what is coming, we are convinced that we can live side by side with Steemit or any other platform without incurring any malpractice.
I'm also a steemian. I also defend the positive elements of Steemit and I'm obfuscated by those characteristics with which I don't agree. I've also lived with Steemit and its early evolution, but that doesn't blind me to see new opportunities and new ways of seeing everything related to Social Networks.
Today, ONO is presented to us as a revolutionary bastion. It will depend on us to create through that platform the power we can obtain. The current days should not be measured in threats but in objectives. Ours is to be able to offer the community a place where sharing life is not just another product of the market.
We will transform centralization into an obstacle overcome, while at the same time we will convert our human quality into lucrative income modes.
