A MOBA in your pocket

in #ongame6 years ago

A MOBA to spend hours on especially if you are on the road.

The Moba is a demanding genre: farming henchmen, last-hiting, building a strategy with his teammates, build-path of his hero ... Not to mention the format of the games: so far most MOBA revolved around 20/30 minutes for standard games. Much too long for mobile gaming aficionados, gaming enthusiasts in tapas mode: in small slices. Tencent has captured these issues very well and is doing very well with Arena of Valor. The duration of the games is about 15 minutes, with a simplified farming system (the last-hiting is optional, and you win gold - in less proportion - even when you do not give the last shot). The equipment of the heroes is done almost automatically, with preconceived build-paths. Finally, the number of heroes is relatively modest (49 currently), which makes it possible to quickly identify the characters met, without having to remember tons and tons of skills. The compromise was not easy to find, and frankly the game is doing pretty well. With a more accessible, short and intuitive format than classic Moba, without giving up too many crucial aspects of the genre.

The Arcanas for example are the equivalent of the runes of League of Legend: you always have the possibility to customize your hero, to give him more armor, magic resistance, attack damage ... Lovers of the detailed theorycraft will not remain hungry. The game is very rich in stats. But once in game, everyone, including laymen, can cope and get used to the gameplay, faster than any other moba. "Quick to take in hand, long to master" is a formula that synthesizes quite well Arena of Valor; an accessible game but that does not sulk connoisseurs of the genre.
