Every Major One Piece Spoiler Explained
One Piece is a Shonen train that has somehow been maintaining steam for more than 20 years. While its excessive length may act as a steep slope for a lot of new fans, the series itself is certainly worth the time. Eiichiro Oda's eccentric character writing, world-building, and famous tie backs have all attributed to a series that is fun for a short time read and immensely rewarding for long time fans.

With that being said, new fans should not be reading this list, as it will be explaining some of the biggest moments in the series. For those only interested in understanding some of the series' references, however, buckle up.

10 Nico Robin Joins The Crew
Nico Robin is currently one of the most historied and beloved members of the Straw Hat pirates. Her quiet yet demented personality has made for some fun rapport and her Devil Fruit is one of the most creative and dangerous powers in all of anime. However, despite her defined membership with the Straw Hats, she was the last person that many fans initially thought would join the crew.

When the Alabasta Arc first begins, she premieres as one of Baroque Work's top agents, as she tries and assassinate Vivi and all of the Straw Hats. Even when the series started to tease her good side, it still didn't seem likely that her dark personality would find kinship among Luffy's colorful band. Fortunately enough, she would prove that assertion wrong time and time again.

9 The City Of Gold
After the Alabasta Arc, the Straw Hats found themselves in one of the story's most magical and mysterious adventures: the search for the island in the sky. They would face ridicule for their efforts but found kinship with another, foolhardy adventurer, Mont Blanc Cricket, a man looking to redeem his family history by finding the lost City of Gold.

Eiichiro Oda somehow found a way to connect the two adventures, when he revealed that a massive Knock Up Stream had actually launched up the city long ago, fatefully and forcefully connecting the destinies of the Shandorians and the Skypeians.

8 Luffy's Biological Family
Several Shonen series love to reveal that the main character is actually part of a long line of powerful and influential characters. One Piece, however, took its sweet time to reveal Monkey D. Luffy's eccentric family tree, though the delay certainly didn't stifle the reveal's impact. After the Enies Lobby Arc, Luffy's grandfather decided to visit his him and revealed to the Straw Hats that he is the famous Garp the Hero, the Marine who rivaled the Pirate King.

However, that doesn't even compare to how shocking Luffy's father is. Monkey D. Dragon is the leader of the Revolutionary Army and the most wanted man in the world. By extension, Luffy has some big bounty posters to fill if he's gonna keep up.

7 Ace's Death
While Luffy's biological family may be interesting, it doesn't have anywhere near as much fan engagement as his adopted family. When Garp decided to have Luffy raised by some mountain bandits, he'd begin a lifelong brotherhood with the other kid that Garp decided to neglect, Portgas D. Ace. Ace is the Pirate King's son who would go on to become the 2nd Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates.

Because both of those things are frowned upon by the World Government, he'd eventually get captured and sentenced to execution. The Marineford Arc was dedicated to Luffy and Whitebeard's attempts to rescue the forsaken son; and while it seemed close towards the end, Oda or, much rather, Admiral Akainu just couldn't help but break the fans' hearts.

6 Sabo's Life
While Ace's death was tragic, he was able to tease another adopted brother. In addition to befriending Ace long ago, Luffy would also find kinship with Ace's childhood friend, Sabo. Sabo was a young socialite who would abandon the noble life to aspire for the pirate life alongside Ace.

His old family, however, would eventually get their hands on him and keep him secluded from the rest of the world. This would force Sabo to run away to the sea before his brothers but was unfortunately attacked by a petty noble before he could even leave the shore. It would take years however before the series revealed that he was not only alive but became Dragon's Chief-of-Staff.

5 Shanks Is An Emperor
Shanks is Luffy's pirate mentor who took care of him long ago when he was docked at Foosha Village. At that time, he only appeared as a regular pirate without much more acclaim than Luffy's praise. However, the series teased that he'd have some sort of greater importance, starting with an infamous rivalry with Hawkeye Mihawhk.

That alone is already shocking but doesn't compare to the reveal that he is one of the four most infamous pirates in the entire world, The Four Emperors. While it's questionable how such a powerful guy could lose his arm early on in the series, he would more than make up for it with some iconic scenes.

4 Laboon
It's easy for any Shonen series, especially early on in their story, to just lace some inconsequential mysteries across their plot. One of the quirkiest ones in One Piece occured when the Straw Hats first entered the Grand Line. They immediately stumbled upon a giant whale that was the size of an island, Laboon.

They would go on to learn that Laboon befriended a group of pirates when he was just a baby but was left behind when they continued their journey more than 50 years ago. Fans assumed they were long dead, until the series introduced Brook during the Thriller Bark Arc. He is the last member of the Rumbar Pirates whose Devil Fruit allowed him to survive a tragic attack long ago who now lives only to return to Laboon once again.

3 Vinsmoke Sanji
During the Skypeia Arc, Sanji teased that he was actually from the North Blue. While most fans thought nothing of it, smarter ones were puzzled given that the path from the North to East Blue was an entire journey.

This suspicion would be greatly rewarded during the Whole Cake Island Arc, when the series revealed that Sanji was actually a long lost prince from one of the most powerful North Blue kingdoms. His full name is Vinsmoke Sanji, and he's part of one of the most infamous and powerful families in the series' history.

2 Crying Over A Ship
One of the biggest attributes about One Piece that long time fans love to reference is the fact that this pirate adventure somehow made people "cry over a ship." As ridiculous as it may seem, this is true. The Straw Hats' first ship, the Going Merry, had taken irreparable damage during the early parts of the Straw Hats' adventures.

This would result in a tearjerking moment, where the Going Merry, possessed by the spirit of the Straw Hats' love, would save them one last time before getting a proper, viking funeral. Not only would the Merry actually talk with heartbreaking sorrow, but the anime delivered a powerful montage of the ship's greatest moments alongside some really powerful, crying faces.

1 The Straw Hat
One of Luffy's most defining features is his iconic Straw Hat. It's literally the namesake for his entire crew and a treasured memento from "Red-Haired" Shanks. However, the series would go on to add more meaning to the head piece, when it revealed that the hat actually belonged to the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, long ago.

The hat would be Roger's gift to Shanks before the King's fateful execution. To add even more importance to it, one of the most powerful figures in the entire series revealed that they're actually keeping a massive straw hat within a hidden vault. With plenty of conspiracy and fan theories behind it, the importance of the Straw Hat is one of the series' biggest spoilers.
