(203/365) Thai New Year Prayer, สวดมนต์วันปีใหม่ไทย

This year, I had the opportunity to go to the temple to join the Thai New Year’s prayer. Most people who joined the end of year praying would follow the monks’ prayer before mid-night till early hour of the new day of the New Year. But for Thai New Year, the monks will pray on the first day of the New Year. This year, the monks started praying at 9.09 hour on Saturday 14 April. The praying lasted almost two hours amidst very hot weather.

The temple had provided seatings inside the main hall and outside on both sides of the hall. There were also bottle water for self-service as the day was very hot. There were also prayers’books on the chairs. The monks chanted for about two hours. The Head monk explained that some prayers have the beneficial impact on one’s life while others contribute towards more strength and security in life. So, he suggested that if more Thai people do their prayers regularly, the benefits to themselves and the country as a whole would be highly beneficial.

ปีนี้มีโอกาสไปร่วมสวดมนต์ขึ้นปีใหม่ไทย ซึ่งตรงกับวันเสาร์ที่ 14 เมษายน ที่วัดสามพระยา เวลาสวดมนต์ข้ามปี เขาจะสวดมนต์จนเลยเวลาเที่ยงคืนของวันสิ้นปีจนถึงเช้ามืดของวันใหม่ แต่เวลาสวดมนต์วันปีใหม่ไทย เขาจะสวดมนต์กันในวันปีใหมาตอนเช้าเวลา 9.09น. ที่วัดนี้ได้มีการเตรียมการดีมาก มีการจัดเก้าอี้ให้คนมาร่วมสวดมนต์ทั้งในโบสถ์และรอบโบสถ์ และมีน้ำเย็นในถังน้ำแข็งไว้บริการตนเองด้วย เพราะอากาศร้อนมาก และมีหนังสือสวดมนต์วางที่เก้าอี้ทุกตัวด้วย น่าเสียดายที่คนมาน้อยไป

พระสงฆ์สวดมนต์ประมาณชั่วโมงครึ่ง ครบทุกบทที่มีอยู่ในหนังสือ. คนที่อ่านทันก็ร่วมสวดมนต์ไปด้วย เราวงสารพระมากเพราะท่านมีอายุมากแล้ว แต่ต้องสวดนำเป็นชั่วโมง จึงมีเสียงแหบและหยุดดื่มน้ำบ้าง อากาศก็ร้อนอบอ้าวมาก ในโบสถ์ก็ใช้พัดลม ส่วนข้างนอกโบสถ์ก็ต้องพยายามหลบแดด และหาที่นั่งตรงที่มีลมพัดผ่าน เราเองต้องเปลี่ยนที่นั่งหลายครั้งเพราะเราเกรงจะเป็นฮีทสโตรก ท้องฟ้าไม่มีเมฆเลย แดดส่องตรงๆ พระสงฆ์ที่อยู่ในโบสถ์คงต้องทนร้อนมากเหมือนกัน เรายังไม่เคยเห็นโบสถ์ติดแอร์

ท่านเจ้าอาวาสวัดสามพระยาสรุปตอนท้ายว่า บทสวดมนต์บางบทเป็นสิริมงคล ถ้าเราสวดมนต์บ่อยๆก็จะทำให้ชีวิตดีขึ้น บทสวดมนต์บางบทให้ความเข้มแข็งแก่คนสวด ถ้าคนไทยสวดมนต์กันมากๆ ก็จะส่งผลดีต่อชีวิตของคนนั้น. และถ้าคนไทยสวดมนต์กันทั่วประเทศ ก็จะส่งผลดีต่อประเทศชาติด้วย

(204/365) Visiting the Silver shop, เยี่ยมเยือนร้านขายเครื่องเงิน

At the ground floor of Robinson mall in New Road, there is a very nice lady selling old silver jewelries with old and unique designs. Some of these pieces are more than twenty years old as they have been kept as original pieces in the catalogue collection. I had requested the shop owner to make some solid silver coins for me. The answer was that it was not practical and no one else would buy these silver coins. It’s easier to sell silver jewelries with higher premium for labout cost.

However, I find the craftsmanship of silver jewelries here very high quality. The designs of the silver necklaces and bracelets are done by older generation craftsmen as they are more difficult to execute. I had bought some nice solid pieces several years ago as souvenirs and future antiques.

ที่ชั้นล่างของห้างโรบินสัน บางรักมีร้านขายเครื่องเงินที่น่าสนใจมาก เพราะงานหลายสืบชิ้นที่นำมาขายนั้นเป็นฝีมือของช่างรุ่นก่อน ที่บ้างก็ตายไปแล้ว บ้างก็แก่ชราเกินไปแล้ว เราเคยไปขอให้พนักงานขายซึ่งเป็นลูกน้องเก่าแก่ของร้าน ให้ช่วยบอกเจ้าของ ให้ช่วยทำเหรียญเงินให้ด้วย คำตอบที่ได้คือมันไม่คุ้มและคนส่วนใหญ่ชอบเครื่องประดับเงินมากกว่า การขายเครื่องประดับสามารถบวกค่าแรงได้สูงกว่าด้วย

เครื่องเงินหลายสิบชิ้นที่นำมาขาย เป็นของเก่าที่เจ้าของเก็บไว้เป็นต้นแบบ และตัวอย่าง งานฝีมือบางชิ้นสวยมาก เหมาะกับการสะสมไว้เป็นของเก่าต่อไป งานหลายชิ้นมีอยู่เป็นชิ้นสุดท้าย งานทำมือที่มีรายละเอียดมากแบบนี้ จะหาช่างรุ่นใหม่มาทำไม่เป็นแล้ว เพราะไม่เคยเรียนมาก่อน เราได้งานสวยๆกลายชิ้นที่หาซื้อไม่ได้แล้ว คนที่ถักและแกะลายเป็นได้ตายไปแล้ว น่าเสียดายที่ความรู้ดั้งเดิมหลายอย่างกำลังหายสาปสูญไป เพราะคนรุ่นใหม่ไม่อดทนต่อความลำบากเหมือนคนรุ่นก่อน
