If indeed it is a typical dish of my country.
They are called AREPA, it is prepared with precooked corn flour. They are done in different ways.
This in particular, the corn flour is mixed with water and sugar then knead in that form, very flat and circular is made in a pot with corn oil or in this case the one you get to fry, the hot oil makes that the mass is bulging.
My two daughters love it, I do that, I always make them breakfast every day, while my wife makes lunch.
