Annette Echikunwoke just won the silver in the hammer throw.

She was born in Nigeria, and came to the US for college, where she was an NCAA champion and surpassed the Nigerian and African records in the hammer.

She was supposed to compete for Nigeria in the 2020 Olympics but was disqualified by the IOC along with a number of other members of the Nigerian delegation for a lack of drug testing by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria. She claims they repeatedly asked her to provide her location for testing and she complied, but nobody ever showed up to administer the tests.

I'm not if that's why she opted to compete for the US. Perhaps she would have anyway. But at any rate, America continues to be a country that benefits from immigration. Congrats to Annette Echikunwoke!
