Most useless job? Lifeguard at the Olypics

in #olympics8 years ago (edited)

So everyone has been making fun of the fact that there have to be lifeguards at the olypics 2016.
So i checked if there was ever someone drowning at a olympic event and couldnt find anyone.
But since its law in Brazilian that any public pool over a certain size has to have lifeguards, its no different for the olypics .
But they seem to be there moreso for the case if an athlete suffers from heart failure.

But i would certenly love this job, i mean being paid $340 for a night being able to watch the olmpics from pretty much the best seat possible!(this is closly above the average wage in brazil btw)
Especially when youd otherwise pay aroud 300$ to watch this event .

And who knows maybe some day one will be needed ..
In 2000 it was actually kinda close ,when Éric Moussambani barely was able to finish the freestyle race after 112,72 seconds on 100m .

Would be sad if a swimmer did drown.

true but also hilarious ..^^

Anything can happen to anyone at anytime--like you mentioned about heart failure. It seems funny, but it is valid to have a lifeguard when there is a body of water. Blackouts, heart events, overexertion, fainting, brain events, all those things and more are possible and dangerous in the water. Where is the next host city? I think I'll apply! :)
