Family Day - no Beer

As mentioned yesterday we did a family Oktoberfest trip without beer and spent most time at the the Historical Octoberfest area of the event. This separate "Historical Oktoberfest" is called Oide Wiesn (bavarian dialect for old fairground). Here you can find some traditional, relaxed atmosphere which is a bit opposite to the wild parties in the huge "normal" Beer Tents. Especially for young kids it is a recommended area to enjoy the Wiesn even on a crowd weekend day.

Details about The Oide Wiesn

This Historical Oktoberfest was first celebrated at the Oktoberfest’s 200th anniversary in 2010. Originally it was planned to happen only once but it was so successful that is now a part of every Oktoberfest. The Oide Wiesn is using 3.5 hectares of the southern parts of the festival grounds and is open everyday from 10am to 10pm. You have to pay 3€ entrance fee but fun rides are 1€ each only so affordable versus the outside real present Oktoberfest rides.

You can watch a lot traditional things: Historical costumes, traditional music, nostalgic rides, old-timers, historic theatres and much more. The historic rides include merry-go-rounds from 1919 and other classics like swingboats or shooting galleries. Another highlight the free Museum-Tent where you can discover the history of the Oktoberfest and see (outside) historic tractors and organs.

Coole Sache!

This looks like an amazing amusement park. paradise for all children, but also their parents. Nice post, @uwelang.

Wow Oktoberfest sounds German spelt if you ask me, I'm not certain though, I love the whole antiques stuffs on displayed, much have really conveyed history way back as well really. Amazing photography as well too.

Correct as it is German but I also used the English version Octoberfest once

Well that explains it really, Amazing scenery as well.

How fun for the family! Sometimes it is nice to get down to the roots or the history of an event. I actually didn't know Oktoberfest was about anything but beer!

How little I know!

Thanks for a great show of Oktoberfest, family style!

Merry go round and swingboats reminds me a lot of fun in my childhood, those were really the beautiful days, at that time there were no worries at all.
Thanks @uwelang for making my day

Wirklich jedes Jahr?

great post and very very nice photography

nice place

Wowww nice placee 😍
