RE: Making Light of Solar Energy for an Off-Grid Cabin

in #offgrid6 years ago

If i was to start over, i would go for a 1Kw system and a wind generation system for night time / cloudy days too.
Don't put all your eggs in one basket and have a small generator as a standby and for 'power tool' type jobs etc...
Overall i would definately recomend a solar system... That, combined with a hot water / heating / cooking off grid system, would make you totally independent....

Thanks for your help, I have a friend who bought a wood burning stove he found roo big for his tiny house... supposedly we can buy it off him for cheap! That'll be our off grid cooking system.

I would like to make both a solar water heater and a solar heating box that pushes hot air into the home (for the day).

I keep thinking about wind energy, but it people who have them say they would have rather spent the noney on more solar panels and batteries...

True about the Solar vs Wind for night time... It's all a balance... Whichever you choose, you'll be glad to be free from the Grid i am sure.
The Solar heating box sounds great... Look forwards to it.
