📷 Converting a Chest Freezer to a Off-Grid Refrigerator - FOR FREE!

Step 1: Find you a free, abandoned chest freezer covered in graffiti...

Step 2: Clean off the graffiti from the inside of the freezer...

Rubbing alcohol worked best to remove the spray paint. We also used baking soda and dish soap

So fresh and so clean

Step 3: Find you a free, abandoned fridge...

We found this one buy a dumpster in town. The compressor was bad, but thermostat still good.

Step 4: Swap out the fridge thermostat to replace the freezer thermostat. The probe on the fridge thermostat wasn't long enough to replace where the freezer thermostat went, so we just ran it through the lid to the inside...

Step 5: Build a house to keep the sun off your new fridge and stuff in some spare insulation around the sides...

The fridge thermostat keeps it about 33 - 40 degrees fahrenheit inside. We run it off of solar with a inverter. Works good.
