My wife made the Obstacle Course Racing World Championships!
Obstable Course Racing World Championships - Blue Mountains, ON, Canada - 14-16 Oct, 2016
My wife just qualified for the OCR world championships in Canada this year. She will complete with the best of the best from around the world on a 3 and 15km course, hanging, jumping, running and crawling her way to victory. Qualifying it's self is a massive achievement, but her story makes me even prouder of her achievements
My wife qualified for the Worlds by completing a 24 hour Endurance obstacle course race, the True Grit Enduro. You have 24 hours to run as many laps as you can, thats a 11km course, with obstacles, including water dips. The temp got down to below freezing that night, ice was forming on the water obstacles! My wife managed to pump out 7 laps! That's over 77km in 24 hours. Thats almost 2 marathons in a day! What a machine!
Again, completing the Enduro it's self, and running 77km is an amazing achievement. What is more amazing, is that she only decided to do the race 2 weeks before... She is a fit individual, and runs a couple of times a week, maybe 10-15km at a time, but she didn't prep for a marathon, let alone 2! She also didn't have any of the specialist gear you'd think you might need for such an event. She went down to the local Charity Shop (Op Shop in Australia) and purchased a 2nd hand wet suit for $40 to keep her warm in the water after dark. She purchased a $20 pair of trainers from Target so that he nice ones didn't get trashed when she was running. Her camp for overnight was a borrowed tent, and she packed some chocolate, tins of tuna and noodles for her snacks for during the event. Her gloves were just the kind your mum would buy you, knitted woollen ones..
Did i mention she (we) have 3 children? An 18 month old, a 5 year old and a 7 year old? All boys! So not only is she being a full time mum, she is being a super athlete at the same time! Who has time for that!?!
Despite not being prep'd, not having the equipment and never competing in such an event before she took out 9th place. Amazing. Imagine what she could achieve with half the prep and just a small amount of gear!

I was lucky that i'd been working Fly In Fly Out for about 9 months the last year, and had a lot of airmiles saved up, which has paid for her flights to Canada from here in Sydeny, Australia. I'm hoping Steemit can help gather some funds for some of the much needed equipment for the event.
We'll repay the community by having Steemit logo's on her race gear, and by mentioning the community in any press coverage she receives.
