Travel Hack 15: Don’t Buy Another Flight Until You Read This!

in #ocd-resteem6 years ago (edited)

If you've traveled, you probably know that flight tickets are the most expensive expenses. Regardless of you're weathly or not, admit that it does burn your wallet, especially if you're flying with your families. That undeniably adds up quite a sum of money it put you in a position where you have to think twice again before planning for a holiday. But what if I tell you that you don't have to pay a fortune to purchase a flight ticket for your dream holiday with your friends and family?

Here are the tips to help you get a cheap flight ticket for your holiday:

1. Buy your flight tickets on a certain day

Many travelers told you that Tuesday is the best day to get cheap flight tickets and the prices are typically lower than any other days. Well, I don't deny that is the typical trend used by most of the airlines but, everyone changed so does the business strategy.

Most of the airlines usually have small scale flash sales on Tuesday and that's when you know that the flight tickets are the cheapest. But this also mean that you're cramping up with a million people trying to get the same flight tickets. But, no one tells you that the flight tickets for domestic and international flights are the cheapest on Monday and also on Thursday. You'll save about 6-10% of the price you would pay if you book it on a weekend. So don't forget to mark your calendar when you need to book a flight.

2. Look out for the time when you purchase a ticket

While people say this is a myth and time has nothing to do with the algorithm, but you'll only know if it's true only if you try it. From what I knew, time actually does matter when it comes to the pricing of the tickets but it's not entirely dependent. It plays just a minor role in affecting the price while the rest are highly depending on the route you choose, your destination, and the season you're going. One of the airline insiders told me that, you'll save as much as $50 SGD if you're booking a flight with Singapore Airline at 8 a.m. in the morning local time.

3. Budget airlines are not necessary the cheapest

Sometimes, you'll notice that budget airlines business are doing better than a full-service airline. Why? Budget airlines earned from your mistakes and it sometimes cost you more than paying a full-service counterpart unless you're absolutely sure that it's the cheapest and you make no mistakes at all.

Budget airlines mean no food and drinks are provided, lesser leg rooms, no baggage allowance provided and sometimes you need to pay for the entertainment service on board. Imagine you need to pay so much extra for these perks or to risk paying fine for overweight baggage. Why not get your info right with airlines comparison for the cheapest flight accompanied by these benefits.

4. Don't reveal your search history

Have you ever wondered what cookies on your browser is for? Thinking that it doesn't make any harms to your devices and especially not to your wallet. If you're one of them, you definitely need to look out now. Cookies do come in handy as it helps you to recognize the related pages that you're searching for on the internet and to provide you the best recommendation on the internet.

However, the down part of cookies is, it is being used by the automated airline website to track your searches. This is the reason why the price of the same flight tickets that you search is different everytime you refreshed your browser. To turn it off, simply switch off your cookie browser on the settings.

5. Flights connection is highly recommended

I can still remember the moment when I found out this trick, I was totally thrilled by it. Layover flights are way more expensive than a stopover flight. Let's take an example where you're about to fly from Malaysia to the United States, you are normally going to stop going to stop at Japan or Taiwan. Try to consider booking a multi-city flight to Taiwan for a couple of days then en route to your final destination. You wouldn't believe that you'll save a few hundred bucks and use it to explore and experience a new culture in a completely different country.

If anyone is recommending you to take a layover flight, say no! This is the biggest mistake that anyone can get unless you're urgently needed to get to the place that you wanted to be.

6. Look out for airline annual sales

Every airline has annual sales set at a certain period of time. If you want a cheap flight, this is probably the best time for you as the price could be the cheapest throughout the year. Since I signed up for a newsletter for my favourite airlines, I often get to know when they are going to have sales and I tend to plan ahead for my upcoming trips. For example, last summer, I bought a round ticket from Malaysia to Europe with Emirates for just less than 600 USD! Can you believe that I've saved almost 400USD from the usual price that I would have paid.

7. Use miles points for a flight

For a non-cards lover, you might want to change your perception of using a card instead for your future purchases the next time. Go to a local bank, apply for a credit card that allows you to collect miles point on every dollar you spend. Honestly, no one doesn't love to get a return for the dollar spent. Even though it takes time to collect those points or even after sometimes you can only afford to purchase a one-way ticket with your miles point, it could already save you a few hundred bucks. The phrase slowly but surely is never a lie! So, why not head to your bank to apply one now?

8. Be flexible on the dates

I know this is not a very effective trick for most people who love everything planned or traveler who is on a business trip. Having a flexible travel date allows you to save more by booking a flight on the weekday than the crowded Friday evening. Not only you can avoid the hectic and stressful flight, cramping with tonnes of passengers on the flight and at the airport, you also get to save your wallet from burning a hole.

Very useful tips and tricks. I add on

Sometimes, airlines have chartered flight coming in/out in each particular country, usually 1 way of Full, however, the return will be empty, airline always (i mean literally always gives 30%-50% Discount from the original price). How to be updated on this is thru Travel Agent, some Travel Agent will update at their FB, Insta and Social Media to get the word out. You just need to be the first to know the info :)

I've heard of that, it's like last minute cheap flights. Travel agencies bought the leftover cheap tickets and resell those tickets. Guess it's a win-win situation for both parties. Thanks for the info :)
