Prosaic contracts launched

After substantial development work in recent months, prosaic contracts are here! They have wider potential use cases than smart contracts as the terms of the contract do not have to be represented in precise machine-readable language. Instead, prosaic contracts are natural language contracts.

Although prosaic contracts are not enforced automatically they can be optionally linked to real-world identities, which are another source of trust in faithful execution of contracts. Realworld paper contracts are in huge demand and used everywhere — smart contracts are not yet and are barely used. So Obyte has launched something in the middle — prosaic contracts!

Note - you probably haven't heard of prosaic contracts, because as far as we know, Obyte founder and lead developer Tony invented the term.

Wallet v2.7.0 released

Prosaic contracts are part of the most recent wallet, released April 20. Some notable changes:

  • rebranding from Byteball to Obyte
  • ability to show dollar value via Hub for user-issued assets, the first one is Future token
  • ability to quickly search and sort contacts and bots
  • ability to post data (data feeds, attestations, polls, ...) through wallet app by clicking a link on a website
  • option to mute push notifications for individual chats
  • option to spend unconfirmed funds received from third parties, previously only your own unconfirmed change could be spent

There were also a large number of other improvements to the wallet, that you can see full details of on Github.

New independent witness candidate  - action requested

Our second independent witness candidate is Fabien Marino.

Many of those active in the community may already be familiar with Fabien, who has been involved in Obyte for some time. Fabien is co-founder of Busy.org and SteemConnect, and is also author of a powerful JavaScript Obyte.js (previously known as Byteball.js) library.

To help us decentralize faster (which may help real-world adoption of Obyte) please take action by doing A or B

Running Obyte wallet on headless RaspberryPi 3+

Thanks to community member Alvar Laigna, who wrote about his experience building and running a headless Obyte wallet on RaspberryPi 3+.

Raspberry PI has become quite popular (more than 18 million sold) in schools and developing countries since its launch in 2012, and it’s great to see people using their initiative to explore what Obyte is capable of.

Interview with Obyte founder

Obyte founder Tony did a short interview with Finyear, and covered topics such as where he expects DLT to be in 5 years’ time and why DAG (which Obyte uses) is so significant.

In case you missed it

Most popular Dapp chooses Obyte to issue their new in-game token.

Developer?

Consider Obyte. It’s written in Node.js and is developer friendly.

Would you love to see Obyte become a major platform in the crypto world?

Then please give this article some Steem love!

Thank you!
