Obsoleteness VI - Food

When was the last time since we looked at food as something precious that sustains our life and the Earth as a life giver; plants and animals as those who are living beings on their own, owning us nothing. Really observing this process for a long time it gives me the impression that we have forgotten this fact altogether. It's a strange sight when the shopping mall's dumpsters are full of food and some street away there is a long queue of people in front of Red Cross' warehouse at the beginning of every month. Not only people in the so called third world lack food there other places where this happens, as well. Even more, there are parcels of land where people could rent a plot and grow their own vegetables that were taken away from those who rented it. There are initiatives around the planet where the municipal authorities are allowing people to use the parcels owned by municipality to grow vegetables, some fruits and even fresh soil. In the suburbs of Vienna someone even established town's fruit garden for those who are poor to come and help to grow the city orchard for themselves to enable them to have some fresh fruit. It's a far better feeling to grow vegetables and fruits than stand in a queue for a food package. And, on some parts of the world not even this is available. At least, while growing own vegetables one knows what it is, while we hardly know what it really is in a packaged food, even with specification upon it. Besides, shopping for food doesn’t enable people to pass on the knowledge how to grow vegetables, fruits, and seeds and the knowledge goes into oblivion.
