It's funny how you're not truly a graduate not until you answer the clarion call. After years of schooling, the most important certificate is your NYSC certificate. LOL!
This program is so flawed that I can barely think of any of its benefits in the lives of graduates today. It has been one bad news to another; starting from the day you were redeployed to a stressful camp exercise. The brutality of the soldiers, the parades, waking up early, attending lectures, in fact everything. This whole stress would have been worth it if you're guaranteed a job after service, right? Or they pay us off after the three weeks camping exercise. But no, they want us to suffer/die in the process of being patriotic

The sick/married/pregnant corp members are always favoured for obvious reasons, making most corps members forge medical reports or wished they were sick! Madness But you can't blame them, many have lost their precious lives trying to obey this shitty call. People fall sick as a result of change of environments, no free treatment from government hospitals for such people. Delays in payment of monthly allowances and going home won't be an option because you are sure to receive a query letter and probably threatened with an extension. Knowing fully well most corp members depend solemnly on their allowances for survival... Yes, I'm a corper currently serving at Bayelsa. As at the time of writing this post, I am yet to receive my allowance for the month of February. I'm starving. I've borrowed. I'm sick and need treatment. Must we die first before they recognise our sacrifices?
My service year started July last year and from that time till date, the only time our allowances was promptly paid was December 2017 and January 2018. The only thing you can buy with this stipend is foodstuffs. You can't afford a new cloth except you have extra source of income. If you still have any money left on you after one week of receiving payment then I applaud your managerial skills 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌.
Sometime ago, they were news about scrapping of this program but best believe those who are benefitting from it monetarily won't fold their hands.
Away from your comfort zone. Surviving each day with hope. No guaranteed job after service. Slavery in disguise. We deserve better. Fuck NYSC!!!

I enjoyed every bit of the experience I got from obeying the clarion call. From making new friends to travelling, carrying my lecturing job at my place of primary assignment... If i could serve twice i'll do it again.
