Is Soylent healthy? (part 1)
Soylent is a very much over hyped meal replacement. I've taken it upon myself to finally review it and give it a run but the first question is the most important "is Soylent healthy?"
Nutrition in Soylent
From first glance Soylent isn't all that bad for a meal replacement. It does put a bit too much focus on taste over digestibility but it's a very American thing to eat for taste rather than health. Soylent claims to be nutritionally complete so you can live off of it and based on skimming through it, it does seem to meet all the RDAs for vitamins and minerals. If you go on Soylent for a few weeks to a month you will not die of starvation.
Soylent does include an unhealthy fat source which I do have concerns about. High oleic canola oil is a messy ingredient and is somewhat scary. But beyond this the majority of the ingredients seem benign. No high fructose corn syrup is in it, and it's vegan.
In my next post I will go into more details but for now Soylent looks okay. What do you all think?
What? Huh? Hang on . . have I gone to sleep and woken up inside a 1970s film???
You have heard of Soylent Green haven't you?
Wake up! You're eating human!!!
:-D
Cryptogee
I immediately thought of it
LOL. Trick question. You're baiting the audience.
You might be trying to figure out if I'm a bot. I'm not. Or if I am a speed-reader unintelligent visitor. Still not. grin. I clicked the reference link titled: "No, Soylent isn’t Healthy. Here’s Why."
Yup. Actual human on this end.
Did you see the 1973 movie "Soylent Green"
...Soylent anything is done for me now. Just the word alone wants to make me puke based on the movie, and your reference link.
Good blog post. +50 points for posting it and seeing what results you got. :)
It gave me a whole new appreciation for strawberries as a kid!
Awesome classic!
My father told us to stop eating canola in 1999.
I personally don't think soylent has many advantages over a basic nutri-bullet regime - one handful greens, some fruit, liquid and BOOSTS. Very quick to prepare, and I'm sure it's better for your body and soul getting yer nutrients direct from plants and seeds.
There are loads of these type things online for recipes.....

Nice post @dana-edwards. I fully agree that soylent is a perfect meal. It is full of nutrition.
I'm sorry, but that is not what the post said. Soylent is far from a perfect meal, read the linked article.
Thanks for sharing!
I doubt that this is a rational substitute for adequate nutrition. Maybe sometimes) I'm waiting for a more detailed review!
