It's very difficult to say what might cause that. Why not record the sound and ask somebody knowledgeable in cars? Also record the normal sound. That might or might not warrant taking the car to a mechanic. Are there any leaks anywhere? Any major parts not replaced whose projected life is coming to an end soon?
