Pietà Pencil Drawing
The Pietà sculpture made by Michelangelo depicts the body of Jesus on the lap of his mother Mary after the Crucifixion. Many people have cried when viewing the sculpture in real life. This is a small section of the sculpture showing Mary's face. This drawing was done on A5 paper and took me over an hour to do. I used several pencils such as 6B, 3B, HB and 4H for the piece
I am pleased with the final result. I wanted to capture her sadness but also her calmness I think the sculpture portrayed. Looking back on the drawing I can see many little ways I could have improved the drawing in terms of proportions and the smoothness of the skin captured through lines.
This was part of the process
