Perspective in history

Hello to all dear friends.

I advise you to visit this not very well-known Roman temple.

It is located in the south of Lazio - Italy in my city Terracina.

It is called the Sanctuary of Jupiter Anxur and is part of the shrines dedicated to the gods in the republican era, built by the Romans between the 2nd and 1st centuries BC.

A very large building that dominates with its grandeur from the top of the hill.

The choice of the site was of fundamental importance to make use of the scenic and visible position for pilgrims from tens of kilometers away.

In fact, on tense days, we can also admire it from the sea, several nautical miles away.

A building surrounded by vaulted arches that support the high podium.

I painted watercolor the long series of arches in support of the podium.

A central perspective that I deliberately tried to give her a sense of aging and antiquity.

I share the classic pattern of the central perspective, of Renaissance origin, a single point of escape.

I would just like to remind you that the great inventor of the central perspective was an Italian, Filippo Brunelleschi, in the 15th century one of the most famous artists in history.

Of him, pure Florentine, I will deal with the subject in depth.

Prospettiva nella storia

Ciao a tutti cari amici.

Vi consiglio di visitare questo tempio romano non molto conosciuto.

Si trova nel sud del Lazio, nella mia città Terracina.

E' denominato santuario di Giove Anxur e fa parte dei santuari dedicati agli dei in epoca repubblicana, edificati dai romani tra il II° e il I° secolo a.C.

Una costruzione molto grande che domina con la sua imponenza dall'alto della collina.

La scelta del sito era di fondamentale importanza per avvalersi della posizione scenografica e visibile per i pellegrini da decine di chilometri di distanza.

In giornate terse, infatti, possiamo ammirarlo anche dal mare, a parecchie miglia nautiche.

Una costruzione circondata da archi a volta che sorreggono l'alto podio.

Ho dipinto ad acquarello la lunga serie di arcate a sostegno del podio.

Una prospettiva centrale che ho volutamente cercato di darle un senso di invecchiamento e antichità.

Vi condivido lo schema classico della prospettiva centrale, di origine rinascimentale, ad unico punto di fuga.

Mi preme soltanto ricordare che il grande inventore della prospettiva centrale fu un italiano, Filippo Brunelleschi, nel 15° secolo uno degli artisti più famosi della storia.

Di lui, fiorentino puro, tratterò l' argomento approfonditamente.

Spero che il mio acquarello vi piaccia e che abbiate voglia di visitare il santuario dedicato a Giove.
