Now Playing: Week 65 (Mar 24 - Mar 30)

Once again we've arrived to a new edition of the #nowplaying contest in its week Nº 65 sponsored by the guys of @nowplaying-music. Yeah, check them out, read the rules to participate and share with us your favorite musical gems. :)

And to brighten up life a little to someone who lives in the land of the darkness with continual blackouts & power outages across the country every week. This week, I invite you to bring your candle with you and enjoy with me this Venezuelanism from the shadows.

Yesterday, exactly at 7:00pm UTC. I started to write this post with the intention to share a trio of beautiful songs. And in the middle of the writing, 10 minutes later, a new blackout hit us. Submerged again in the dark cursing and swearing, I went to the window to see what had happened. And well, this time appears that it wasn't a general power outage. Since there was light on other parts of the city.

Then, apparently, this new blackout had only affected the sector of the city in the vicinity of where I live. ¡Wadda luck! I told myself. So I had no choice but went to bed and lie down for a while and wait for the electric power to return. For more than two hours I was there lying in the darkness waiting. But the light never came back. So, little by little I fell asleep and it's now 5:00am UTC that I just woke up.

Therefore, I am not really aware when exactly the electricity was restored. But what I am really aware of... is that I told to myself again: ¡Fuck that trio of beautiful songs! Because for this contest, I'm gonna share just one (1) song only. A solitary, lonely & unique song solely and exclusively. But though, a very special song to show you the great sense of humor with which Venezuelans have to count these days to keep ahead in survival mode.

Hence and as I've said in the title, Yeah...

¡Esto es lo que hay!

Los Amigos Invisibles:

  • Julio Briceño (a.k.a. "Chulius", vocals, percussion, songwriting)
  • José Luis Pardo (a.k.a. "Cheo" or "DJ Afro", guitar)
  • José Rafael Torres (a.k.a. "Catire", bass, songwriting)
  • Armando Figueredo (a.k.a. "Armandito", keyboards, background vocals)
  • Mauricio Arcas (a.k.a. "Maurimix", percussion, background vocals)
  • Juan Manuel Roura (a.k.a. "Mamel", or "Mamulo," drums, percussion, songwriting)

A great venezuelan band of young talented musicians and good friends of mine to which I had the pleasure and great honor to sponsor since the beginning of their musical career when they were just a bunch of illustrious unknowns back in the early 90s.

And to which I permanently hired to usually liven up the great majority of the clandestine underground parties that I used to organize and promote at that time to the delight of all the attendees. Private parties that turned out to be very crowdy with a massive audience within the tribe of the underground circuits. Thanks to the popularity of the events and great quality of the bands and musicians invited to play live with us.

So yeah, ¡This is what there is!

...across the darkness!!
