Now Playing: Week 65: My three Favourite Cello Suites by J. S. Bach (1685-1750)
Exactly a week ago was celebrated the aniversary of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), and I made a post talking about his importance, and geniality. Today I share with you in a post for @nowplaying-music, my three favourite Cello suite by this master of the western music.
Cello Suite n6
In six movements, today, by means of recent researches of musicians, historians, and luthiers, whom he distrusts, or even affirms that this work was composed for a type of minor violoncello, that was very touched in the time of Bach, the Cello Piccolo, with five strings.
Here performed by Sergey Malov, recorded in November 4th, 2016, at the Gashouder of the Westergasfabriek, Amsterdam
Cello Suite n5
I love this suite, we also have a manuscript of the same piece for Lute. The BWV 995. For Eric Siblin, while in Suite n6 we have the affection of transcendence, in Suite n5, also in 6 movements like all, we have the affection of the mystery.
The Prelude arises from the depths like an organ prelude, culminating in what appears to be a fugue. The mysterious contours of these melodies, lies in the permanent doubt about what it represents, a question mark of the one that is in search, in research. Perhaps the pursuit of the transcendence of the sixth suite. Through mysterious and unknown paths, unique to every human being.
Here performed by Hidemi Suzuki, in August 25th, 2017, at KIT Royal Tropical Institute, Amsterdam.
Cello Suite n3
Here we have the most passionate of suites. The representation of love. Expressed in the expressiveness of the Prelude, in the elegance of Allemande, in the agility of Courante, in the sererous depths of Sarabande, in the flirtation of Bourrée, and in the energetic freedom of Gigue.
In a recital with Yo Yo Ma, in BBC proms, recorded in 2015.
Hope you like =D
A great hug
