Gather My Troops - Not So Freewrite Challenge Week 2
Entry for Round 1, Week 2
Gather My Troops
A simple declaration of love
threatens my fortress of dispassion
Ambush laced within a smoky voice
I severed all ties
with romantic notions ages ago
binding my scars in
indifference and austerity
A call to arms I bellow silently
commanding the forces of
rationale and better judgement
to present themselves directly
The rules of engagement
have been further breached
by his expectant gaze and
the tenderness of his touch
I steel myself amid
this sudden sedition
gauging my own fortitude
and hard-earned wisdom
against the assault
of his embrace
The battle within me ensues
As sure as I raise
my defenses
it becomes apparent
that my reserves
have been depleted
Surrounded by
traitorous sentiments
my only recourse
Surrender

You are a woman after my own heart in one of my seasons. I love the simile/metaphors of love and war and that surrender consumes the victory and the defeat.Bravo! So glad you joined us @tinajordan, thank you for your entry.
Thank you for the opportunity and the inspiration!! I appreciate your kind words :)
I’ve been watching the Outlander series on cable recently and realize that much of your writing evokes a similar sensuous, but conflicted mood and tone as the show. Your picture with this post even looks like it might have been taken on the moors of Scotland. Thanks for sharing your craft.
Thank you so much! I have never watched the show. I don't watch much on tv really, but I do have an affinity for anything medieval ;) I appreciate your kind comments!
That was a great read. I wish there was more! @tinajordan
Thanks so much!! :)
Well done, @Tinajordan :) "The heart has its reasons that reason does not know" -Pascal
