I see, so there is actually a limited pool of steem to hand out?
Im quite liking steem initially, but honestly, the whole money aspect puts me off slightly. afaic, it simply encourages posting anything that gets votes and seems susceptible to the same top down hierarchy that we are already far too used to in our current monetary systems. Maybe there is no other way, idk. Still, I enjoy the ability to reach and communicate with new people.

The problem is that capitalism is a top-down system.
Other systems exist, communism is a very popular one without that type of relationship.
But communism basically becomes a top down system anyway due to corruption. Not saying the ideas contained within communism are not valuable, I think they are and I think the world, especially the USA, should pay attention.
I think democracy (if it was working) is a great system. But again, corruption makes it fail. Whatever system most of the world claims to live in, its basically a lie, its just a mix of capitalism and oligarchy, pretty much every time, for most of our written history.
communism is a stateless classless society. What you are thinking of is known as a transitional state. The goal of a transitional state is to eventually wither away once the conditions are right for communism to form. The conditions are now right and with the amount of resources humanity has we can go straight to full communism.

While this book is an incredible wealth of reading and I will share this on various networks to people, its not actually anarchy working in practice, but in theory. Sure there are isolated cases but sadly most dont think this scales up to the sizes of society we currently have (I personally think it does).
I sure hope ideas like universal income take root and succeed.
I mean, thats a nice idea, but you have a mountain of people to convince otherwise, and many wont even listen as soon as you say certain key words!

Well, we are trying, I think. As I say the universal income is being tried out in many places around the world so I guess you are right, people are beginning to realize we dont need to stay within the capitalist system to succeed and enjoy life. We have a long way to go before communism isnt said as a negative political label.
