Hiking to Mån
Earlier this week I went camping with my best friend in the beautiful hills of Norway! Both of us hadn't been camping for ages so we decided to go no matter what the weather would be like! We were ready with our bags packed with tent, sleeping bags, lots of wool and dry socks. We were going to a place called Mån, walking past the Mån water fall on the way.
Even though the weather wasn't the best, it wasn't raining and as soon as we got to the old farm the rain had stopped. We were planning on continuing further into the valley and look at the stunning view!
However, the path we had chosen turned out to be a bit more challenging than we were expecting. We wanted to walk to a lake called Månavatn, which were supposed to be just half an hour easy walk further into the valley. We were clearly misinformed. Here is the path we had to walk:

We took an hour to get through this pile of stones and after that the path was leading us further up the mountains. An easy walk, really?! The path lead us to a water fall. Let me correct myself, the path was going THROUGH a water fall. It had been raining for a couple of days so the current was strong and if you slipped there was an eight feet drop right next to the crossing. A lot of accidents happen in Norwegian people because we don't always respect the natural forces. But we have something called "fjellvetreglene", the rules of common sense in the mountains. One of them says: there is no shame in turning around. So we turned around and walked back to the cabin we passed earlier.
We camped outside, grilled some burgers we brought with us, played some cards and went to sleep. The weather gods rewarded us for going for a hike in the rain the next morning. This is what we woke up to:
This trip had to be short as I had to teach yoga in the evening (dream job). We walked down the same path and got to look at the magnificent, powerful nature basking in the glory of the sunshine. What a place to live! I feel so grateful to have such an easy access to these beautiful mountains. It truly leaves you speechless.

So gorgeous! :) You are so lucky to be Norwegian! I have never visited Norway but I would love to. I would definitely want to climb Trolltunga. It's one of the coolest places on earth if you ask me! I get bad vertigo so it would be a challenge, but one worth taking :D
I also love trolls! I have a collection of them and to me, they are spirits and friends, little helpers. I stroke their hair for good luck and because they are cute! In fact, I am so into trolls that myself and my spouse call each other 'my troll' affectionately. My friend, who visits regularly, says that she dreams about trolls when she sleeps in one room with them. It's so funny! She calls it 'dream trolling' when it happens. Most of the trolls in my collection are from Norway. I will have to make a trip there sometime for sure! It's one of my long term dreams! :)
I am lucky indeed. I want to go there too! Kind of a bit embarrassed that I haven't already ! You have trolls?! That's adorable. Are those the ones with bright hair?
Wow I've never heard about dream trolling, that's really cool though. Trolls are a part of our culture, we even have an adjective that we use when something looks "trollsk". It's kind of a bit mystical, often a bit foggy, as if you wouldn't be surprised if you saw a troll coming from behind the mountain! :P

We have the plastic colourful haired ones too, but it is the traditional ones that appear in our and our visitors dreams. Maybe Dana can find and post a pic of our troll altar.
Have you seen the Norwegian film 'The Wave'? Quite telling that the woman in that film that strokes the troll hair has good luck... ;)

And that is so crazy that you mentioned "The Wave"! My dad put it on last night! I was reading an exciting book, so I didn't watch with him, but I was thinking that I kind of want to. Haha. Is it good?
We really enjoyed it. It's a catastrophic movie, so quite dark and scary but very good. I would recommend it for sure. :)
That's cool. Most of the characters in it are comedians. When you know that (especially if you know who the actors are) it becomes more funny than scary. But yeah. A great film for learning about Norwegian folklore!

@dana-varahi and I both really enjoyed "The Wave". It gets a little scary in places, and a little dark, but if you enjoy disaster movies you'll love "The Wave". We've watched it twice now...
Oh really?! Maybe I should give it a watch then! I feel I should watch a bit more of Norwegian film, I hear it's improving.
There have been a number of Norwegian films we enjoyed recently. I can't remember all the titles, but 'The Wave' was particularly good.
Now that I'm back in the country it should be easier to watch some although I rarely watch films. But there are a couple I'd really like to see!

I can imagine! Have you seen "Troll Hunter"? Great Norwegian film about trolls. It will give you an introduction to the twisted Norwegian sense of humour.

Beautiful scenery! Haven't been camping in the norwegian mountains for years, only in the woods around Oslo. Maybe I should start planning a trip to some place in the mountains some time soon.
Oh yes! I've lived in Oslo and although I find it beautiful, it absolutely cannot compare to the scenery we have on the west coast ! This (or further up north) is where you need to go!
