Bergen, Norway's second largest city.steemCreated with Sketch.

in #norway6 years ago

Bergen was founded by the Norwegian king, Olav Kyrre in 1070.
In Norway's heyday in the 12th and 12th centuries, the city was also the capital of Norway.
Throughout its history, Bergen has been a leading international shipping city.
It has also been a leading trading city, and from the middle of the 14th century, the Hanseatic League established a business office in Bergen. Bergen was at that time one of the important Hansa cities, and many business people moved from Germany to Bergen. Names like the German quay testify to this historic community.

Bergen was also the Nordic region's largest city until the 17th century and Norway's largest city until the 1830s, when Oslo took over as the country's largest city.

The first overview photo is taken from Fløien, a mountain in Bergen.
This picture shows part of the city centre with the fish market. We can also see Nordnes with the famous aquarium.
In the distance, one can also glimpse Sotra and Askøy, two islands west of Bergen.

On a couple of the pictures, one can also see the Løvstakken, another of Bergen's seven mountains.

The last picture shows the station by the foot Fløy mountain where one can take a cable car to the top of this mountain. Such a trip is very popular with tourists.

What a beautiful city by the water.
It has everything, the beautiful mountains and the gorgeous water.
Thank you for sharing some of the history of it.

Thanks for your comments about my pictures of Bergen @Joalvarez

The street from the last pic looks alike with one that I walked on in a small village in Germany in the are of the Black Forest. Regarding Norway I lived for about ten months in Norway in a small town near Oslo named Kolbotn. I simply loved Norway and its landscapes but I couldn't accustom with the short summer nights and too much cold during the rest of the year. The temperatures during summer though were perfect for me. Bergen looks great. Nice pics.

Thank you for your detailed comments about my post and pictures of Bergen Acesontop
