Hovedøya Kommandantboligen
On the island of Hovedøya at the Oslo fjord lies the
''Kommandantboligen'' (Commanders residence.)
A beautiful construct.
Build in 1850 it originally served as military research station developing explosives and ammunition.A few decades later it was converted into a summer house.
Signs on the island will lead you to the are of the ''Kommandantboligen''
During the years of the second world war the residence was used by German occupation forces.After the war the building was converted back to residential housing.
Vegetation surrounds the outer walls.
There used to be a beautiful garden around the house in the old days..
Perfect location
Starting in the seventies the Arjune puppet theater used the facilities as their artistic base for the next four decades.Today this beautiful construction does not seem to be in use.
Hopefully some new use will be found in the future.
Asleep waiting to be re-purposed!
