Granfoss

in #norway7 years ago

Granfoss (originally called fåbrofossen) is a waterfall at the lower part of Lysaker river in Oslo. Located in a beautiful area with many walking paths is well worth a visit if you are in the area. In this area started many sawmill industries in the middle of the 19th century.

A great scenery

The water was from the waterfall was used as a power source in the surrounding factories and was carried via wooden pipes. This practice continued up until the arrival of electrification in the 1940's.

Part of the pipework can still be seen today

It is worth noting that the pathway by the waterfall is part of the 'pilegrimsveien' a pilgrims route leading all the way to Nidaros cathedral in Trondheim. Better bring lunch!
