After Nigeria's independence in 1960, the cinema business rapidly expanded, with new cinema houses being established. However, there came a significant influx of American, Indian, Chinese and Japanese films; posters of films from these countries were all over theatre halls and actors from these industries became very popular in Nigeria. Towards the late 1960s anNollywood.jpgd into the 1970s Nigerian productions in movie houses increased gradually, especially productions from Western Nigeria, owing to former theatre practitioners such as Hubert Ogunde, Ola Balogun , Moses Olaiya , Jab Adu, Isola Ogunsola, Ladi Ladebo, Sanya Dosumu and Sadiq Balewa amongst others, transitioning into the big screen. The first fully commercial Nigerian films, shot on celluloid, were also made by these filmmakers in the 1960s.
Currently the hollywood stands at number 1 in the world followed by nollywood then bollywood the third. Nigerian are trying to learn from the hollywood film makers. They are far away ahead of us and technology wise nollywood is not close. The african setting have a lot of untold story yet to be introduce to the motion pictures which will wow the world. But when will that be? When nollywood are yet to explore other genere. They mostly produce the comedy, drama, thrillers, less of action film.they have yet to exploire the sci fi, animation, super heroes movie. But when they fully include technology to their work i think the whole world will see the other side of nollywood yet to be seen at this time nollywood will rule because the world have just seen 30% of there stories and history. A lot is yet to be seen when they join creativity and technology together.
