ninja_fortnite.0.jpg The first ever Epic Games Fortnite Pro-Am has come to an end and crowned its first champions: pro streamer Ninja and musician Marshmello.
The tournament, hosted in Los Angeles at the Banc of California Stadium during the Electronic Entertainment Expo, teamed 50 pro Fortnite players and streamers up with 50 celebrities, setting them against each other for their share of a $3 million charity prize pool as well as the Golden Pickaxe trophy.

The first game was an impressive match-up that allowed all 100 players to show off their incredible Fortnite skills in a solo warm-up game. Much to the surprise of everyone, heavy tournament favorite, Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, was taken out of the game early by fellow Twitch streamer, Gotaga. Things got tense as the match dragged into its final few circles with pro players like NoahJ456, Kinstaar and even musician Drezo going late into the game, making it into the top five. Ultimately, the match came down to a critical fight between Noah and Kinstaar with Noah using his high ground and a rocket launcher to jump down onto Kinstaar and win match one.
Game two was the first time our duo players teamed up with their partners as Epic gave the teams a warm-up match together before the big money match. Things got hectic quite a bit faster in this match as more than a few teams landed together. Players like Lil’ Yachty who made it into the top 20 of the first game, were eliminated early this time. As the zone got smaller and smaller, it became clear that position would be all that mattered in this game with the last four teams all fighting on the same hill to end the game.

Ultimately, game two came down to Ninja — whose game went significantly better than the first — facing off against the duo of Kinstar and UFC fighter, Sean O’Malley. Ninja managed to get a height advantage against the duo and take down O’Malley early in the fight before turning toward’s match one’s runner-up: Kinstaar. While Ninja’s solo heroics were impressive, they weren’t quite enough to take down Kinstaar’s rockets which helped him win the fight and the Pro-Am’s second match.
While match two was tense, the third was something else entirely as the game came down to a final circle showdown between OpTic Gaming’s CouRageJD and Ninja and Marshmello, who were eager to bounce back from their narrow defeat in game two. Once again the final teams fought it out at the peak of a mountain, but this time Ninja started with the high ground and it proved to be the difference as both players fired down onto CouRageJD leaving him with no way out. Despite some careful and clever tricks from CouRage, he eventually fell to Ninja and Marshmello who were crowned Fortnite’s first ever Pro-Am champions.
The winning team will take home $1 million in prize money to be donated to the charity of each of their choice. Every team in the competition, no matter where they finished will also get a piece of the event’s prize pool to take home, with most of it going to the top 10 teams.
