Nigerian Network, More harm than good?
What is communication?
Literarily, this is the art of passing information either by mouth, sign language or written form from one person to another.
By mouth, this involves sending and receiving information from one person to the other talking (verbally).
On the other hand, (non-verbal) includes the sign language. The sign language is the use of fingers, head , eyes, and body to pass a message.
Written form is a medium in which pen and paper is put into use. We write letters, note, text etc. Other people read them and get information. We use these written form in different places and purposes. For instance, in the school during examination, meetings, writing of books etc.
In the olden days, we make use of various means of communication. Some of these include, talking drum, fire, town-crier, gong, messenger, etc
We also have the modern day communication method. This includes television, telephone, newspaper, magazines, radio, etc.
!
Haven taken a cursory look at the few details of communication, how do these media affect our daily lives, businesses and relationships with people and its providers in this modern world?
In Nigeria, there are prominent network providers who compete among themselves healthily yet the services are blurring and apauling. Needless to start citing them. People in Nigeria will be familiar with them already.
What arouses my attention into writing this piece is the answer to the question cited above. How can what ought to pass a simple message from one place or person to another place or person be such that will contribute to ills in the society?
You can not have an emergency call to make, dial the number and it will go smoothly. Unhindered by a voice that delays the relay of the communication for the next thirty seconds or more! It rather starts introducing the name of the network, the services you can enjoy from it such as caller tunes and the likes.
Certain emergency cases where you will need to save a life should be considered by these network providers. The high time they realized that part of the times used in dialing a number and the prompt response/connection expected is wasted by them.
Should I therefore conclude that the olden days means of communication is worth and better than this modern day's? NO. But there is room for IMPROVEMENT. Countries' telecommunications should try as much as possible to eliminate these impediments. These impediments cause more harms than good to the service receivers. Some of these harms include:
√ inadequate flow of communication on both ends causing loss of information.
√ delay in communication connection from the network service providers.
√ possible loss of lives when message did not reach the appropriate personnel on time due to poor network service.
√ frustration on the consumers.
√ psychological trauma and pains.
However the cited problems associated with these networks, there are still some applaudable services enjoyed using these networks. Some of these include:
√ reduced stress in walking a distance to meet the person you want to communicate with face-to-face.
√ reduction of cost in moving from one place to another.
√ fastest means of relaying a message to people either formally or informally.
And many more.
Conclusively, when the use of a thing causes more pains than its enjoyment, such is not worthy of patronage. But, the situation could be ameliorated. Network providers should ensure that the time consumers are using to dial a number and when it connects, is very crucial , important and necessary. It should not be hindered by a frivolous advert. Let all calling connections be devoid of in-adverts.
If you have find this post worthy of meeting what you have experienced when trying to make an urgent call, kindly share your experience in the reply section.
If you feel there is more they should do, do not hestitate to contribute.
My humble submission.
