HAPPY DEMOCRACY DAY TO NIGERIA -THE JOURNEY SO FAR

in #nigeria5 years ago

Today being May 29 has been celebrated every year as Democracy day and public holidays are always declared. Nigeria became a democratic country in 1999 after a long reign of military rule filled with various coup d’etat and after the death of General Sani Abacha in 1998. It deem fit that it was time for the country to move forward, Abdulsalam Abubakar who manage the country affairs after the demise of Abacha from 1998 to 1999 until we see the day of the General election which brought to light Olusegun Obasanjo as the President (formerly Military Head of State) and ruled for 2 tenure which is 8 years and the handed to the first Civilian President late Umaru Yar’dua who couldn’t complete his tenure while in office and Goodluck Jonathan was on a acting capacity after his departure while was mile with different political drama. Goodluck Jonathan completed the tenure and begin a fresh one which he won the election to become the first democratic president of all time. He ruled for only one term and was denied his second tenure by the political bourgeois controlling the political affairs of the federation. Then came Muhammadu Buhari was also a former military head of state and was overthrown in a bloodless coup back in 1985 by Ibrahim Babaginda. On this very day, Buhari is to be sworn into office for his second term (inauguration), though there are different controversies rounding the electioneering process and which case is currently in the court, a petition filed by the opposition party.

Come rain, dust, sand and mold. Nigerians (citizens) have always stood out strong irrespective of whom the President is, either Military or Civilian doesn’t matter to us but the common goal of patrimony we join forces to see that this very Great Nation regain its lost Glory. Today we celebrate our fallen heroes and those still alive, contributing or might have contributed to the rise of this Nation. We are free from mind slavery and we continue on this journey as the country (Nigeria) continues to grow.

I pray that the political officers whom are to be sworn in and those returning sees the light and push the country to the number one spot. Here lies great mind and we as citizen are committed to see we achieve and build the future today.
