STUDYING ARCHITECTURE IN NIGERIA
HEY GUYS
This is my first post and I hope it is helpful to most people out there.
Studying architecture in Nigeria does not seem all hard as people see it to be. But what are the basics we need to know about this career.
Let’s start by defining architecture.
WHAT IS ARCHITECTURE?

1. According to Wikipedia; Architecture is both the process and the product of planning, designing, and constructing buildings or other structures. 2. The oxford language says; the art or practice of designing and constructing buildings.

3. Dictionary.com defines architecture as the profession of designing buildings, open areas, communities, and other artificial constructions and environments, usually with some regard to aesthetic effect. It also comprises design or collection of furnishings and decorations, administration of construction work, and the examination, refurbishment, or renovation of existing buildings.

4. Macmillan dictionary defines architecture as the study or practice of designing buildings.

6. The Cambridge dictionary defines architecture as the art and practice of designing and making buildings.

7. The Collins dictionary says that Architecture is the art of planning, designing, and constructing buildings.

9. Louis kahn defined architecture; as the ponderous creation of spaces.
   Architecture deals with space, function, rhythm, aesthetics, and many more, are part of the process of designing and constructing.
   To study architecture you have to be clear and know what you’re going into. Architecture is not art, but there is art in architecture.

REQUIREMENTS TO STUDY ARCHITECTURE IN NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES
Direct Entry Requirements:
These are the state of affairs you need to gain Direct Entry admission to study Architecture, if you don’t plan to use UTME.
Your requirement; Two (2) ‘A’ level passes chosen from Mathematics or Physics and Chemistry, Geography or Fine Arts. ND/HND upper credits in relevant field.
UTME Requirements:
The O’level subject arrangement and necessities needed to study Architecture;
You require;
Five (5) SSCE credit passes in english language, mathematics, physics, chemistry, geography, biology, economics, technical drawing, further mathematics, and any trade subject related to technical drawing.
UTME Subjects:
In UTME, give pleasure to note that English Language is Necessary for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject mixture needed to study Architecture:
Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Geography, Art, Biology and Economics.

5. Communication and negotiating skills.
6. Imaginative and creative thinking skills
7. Ability to analyze and critically assess problems
8. Numeracy, design and drawing;

11. The ability to solve problems in an analytical, logical way;
