It Was Independence Day Yesterday
October 1 every year remains the Nigerian Independence Day. That was yesterday.
I was thrown into a deep thought yesterday as there was nothing to celebrate. I cannot remember having heard any jingle to that effect. Simutanously, a greater percentage of our citizens went about their private business. Those that care to wish other mere Happy Independence Day heard a lot they never bargained for.
Nigerians are not happy for anything but just for being alive.
The young population of Nigeria is poised to do exploits yet there is nowhere to anchor their energies. Nothing seems to work to the aspiration of many. But how long shall we continue like this - I don't know.
All I feel like doing is playing the hit track by Sunny Okosun - Which Way Nigeria?
Definetly there is nothing to celebrate about. Everything is just backwarded.
