Google Honours Nigeria's Chinua Achebe
One of the greatest literary minds in African history and the legendary Nigeria Laureate, Chinua Achebe was this week honoured by Google - the world’s most popular web-search engine.
Google, on the 16th of November honoured Chinua Achebe and #Africa at large, by displaying Achebe's doodle on their search engine to mark his 87th birthday anniversary.
The Late Chinua Achebe was considered by many to be the father and pioneer of modern African literature, and Google decided to celebrate his legacy by honouring him on his 87th birth anniversary, the 16th of November 2017.

> awarded 30 honorary degrees from universities around the world
Chinua Achebe’s first novel Things Fall Apart was released in 1958, and was considered his best. Things Fall Apart is the most widely read book in modern African Literature till date.
Things Fall Apart showcases the convoluted customs of the Igbo culture, which is one of the major ethnic groups in Nigeria with a very distinct language and culture.
Achebe was a very well learned and respected writer who often lent his voice and opinion to generations of Africans. He refused to be defined solely through the lenses of European and unAfrican thoughts.
His literary works often displayed his passion and desire to tell distinct African stories through the perspective of African characters. Part of that work helped to forge a literature that was independent of European acts, despite the fact that he won several honorary degrees and accolades from Europe, including the Man Booker International Prize award, in 2007.
Chinua Achebe won numerous awards all over the world. Some of the awards included;

Prof. Achebe, who was born Albert Chinụalụmọgụ Achebe, died at the age of 82 on the 21st March in 2013, in Boston, USA.
He would have been 87 years old, on Thursday, the 16th of November.
