9 DAYS TO NIGERIA'S GENERAL ELECTIONS; MY FEAR.

in #nigeria5 years ago (edited)
For people who are not aware, Nigeria's General election is sheduled for 16th Febuary, 2019. It will be Nigeria's sixth quadrennial elections since the end of military rule in 1999. The three major candidates are President Muhamadu Buhari (APC), Atiku Abubakar (PDP) and Omoyele Sowore (AAC).

While i was still a student of political science, i remember clearly how we often analyzed Nigeria's past elections in classes. My funny proffessor will caution us "Don't join the masses to start predicting who will win in the election". He taught us to always look beyond who will win to implication of the election outcome on the country and that is where my fears lie in this election.

`
This sixth quadrennial election is unlike any other type of election we have had in Nigeria. This election isn't about religion as it has always been, it is not about ethnic groups as it has always been, it isn't even about political parties like it has always been as most people don't eben care which party Sowore belongs to, instead it is clearly the case of "Any other administration as long as it is not the present administration and their style of governance.

I think this is the first time since we entered the fourth republic that a present government has been widely rejected by almost the entire country (my opinion) also juding by people's twitter posts and people's answers on Youtube videos. I might not be entirely right at this as we can see from the amount of crowd at each candidates campaigns but this is the first time people are realizing that a leader has failed them and there is no sentiment about it.

People have even taken it upon themselves to educate and enlighten the masses on the need to move from tweeting to actual voting and also discouraging the masses from selling their votes. Musicians and other celebs have taken it upon themselves to make people politically conscious all in a desperate attempt to change Nigeria's leadership crisis. We can see this on from Falz songs like "This is Nigeria" and "Talk". We can see this from Psquare song "No Shishi for Bribe" featuring various artists. Also from Charly Boy's song too titled "pack and go"

What i am trying to say is that the outcome of this election has a huge impact on Nigeria's future elections. If the present administration wins this election, this will make it obvious to everyone that the people's votes in this country do not count. If the present administration wins, i don't think anyone will agree to go through the long and stressful process of voting again in this country. But if any change is made, people will be more encouraged to vote in future elections including people who won't vote in this one.

Well, i can't and won't even try to suggest to you who to vote but all i can say is "Vote wisely" just like @spiritualmatters has noted, Vote your conscience; and, not a brainwashed agenda. And do not be scared that the person that your vote will bring in might fail more than the present government for as long as the power is our hands (the voters), then we will keep trying till we get the right person that will turn Nigeria around. After all, that is the only solution democracy has to the problem of leadership crisis.

Hi @paramimd
I've just checked your wallet. You have 12 liquid steem in there. If you power it up, you'll have 55SP of your own.
Congrats! You're doing good.

I'm proud of you for not giving up! Many people do, because we both know it is not easy to get started on SteemIt.

I'll be lowering my delegation, so I can use the SP to help out other people in need.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks a lot @simplymike your delegation helped me a lot when i couldn't do anything because of low RC. It makes sense that you want you delegate to others who were once in my shoe. Thanks for your support.
